[Patch v1] nwe special tag mkgmap:residential

Hi all, attached is a patch that implements a new hook ResidentialHook to add the tag mkgmap:residential to nodes and ways which are located in a landuse=residential area. If that area was named, the tag will have the value of that name, else it will be yes. So, in the style you may use building=* & mkgmap:residential!=* [0x13 resolution 24] to add only those buildings to the map which are not inside a landuse=residential area. To reduce run time, the hook tests only one point for each element: For nodes it will check the position of the node, For closed ways the hook computes the center point, for other ways with n points it will check the n/2 th point. The hook is executed after the POIGeneratorHook, so generated POI are processed (as well as the shapes generated from MP-Relations. I did not see a reason to process relations, please let me know if you see one. A compiled binary is here: http://files.mkgmap.org.uk/download/338/mkgmap.jar The option --x-residential-hook=false disables the hook. If I hear no complains I will add docu and commit the patch next tuesday. Gerd

Thanks Gerd Works a treat although in my style I had to use building=* & mkgmap:residential=yes {delete building} in both polygons and lines (outlines). Your efforts provide an addiitional bonus in that you may just want to show just the faint outlines of buildings. Perhaps with some coding you could make exceptions for buildings in villages/hamlets... Hi Nick, hmm, not sure what you want to point out. The tag mkgmap:residential may be set to other values than "yes", e.g. ways located in https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/454954092 should have mkgmap:residential=Bahnhofsviertel Gerd ________________________________________ Von: mkgmap-dev <mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk> im Auftrag von nwillink <osm@pinns.co.uk> Gesendet: Sonntag, 5. Nick, sorry, I don't get it. With the patch the value in the new tag mkgmap:residential is evaluated before any style rule is used. I see no way for you to pass the information from a node or way with place=village to another element with building=* Gerd ________________________________________ Von: mkgmap-dev <mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk> im Auftrag von nwillink <osm@pinns.co.uk> Gesendet: Sonntag, 5. Hi Nick, maybe you can check mkgmap:admin_level9..11 to decide if an element is in a village? With the patch the value in the new tag mkgmap:residential is evaluated before any style rule is used. I see no way for you to pass the information from a node or way with place=village to another element with building=*

Gerd, that is a good point
It was just a thought that since points are parsed first one could perhaps set a flag when place=village is true
then
mkgmap:residiential=* & village=true . --> show buildings
So I was not thinking of mkgmap specifically

Hi Gerd I've for the time being abandoned the admin_level idea but I'm sure its possible - around my area most levels are admin_level 10 I have had various thoughts 1) Some buildings may be more important than others, ie pubs ;) so I've been tinkering with excluding them from the residential list - 2) In many ways using a TYP file its very useful to be able to distinguish between residential (faint no outline) and non residential buildings ( darker with outline) 3) Buildings in industrial / educational areas are still shown, but that is not a problem ; I can see a possible use for mkgmap:industrial / mkgmap:leisure etc but that may be over the top. 4) Exeter is 'plagued' with buildings and the residential rule seems to have excluded them all ! r Nick On 05/03/2017 17:00, Gerd Petermann [via GIS] wrote:

With the patch the value in the new tag mkgmap:residential is evaluated before any style rule is used. I see no way for you to pass the information from a node or way with place=village to another element with building=*

Hi Ticker, hmm, the messages are produced because I abuse the Boundary classes for the ResidentialHook. It should say landuse=residential instead of admin_level=11. I'll see if I can fix that. Anyway, the data in that area is probably wrong as landuse areas should not overlap. maybe you can check mkgmap:admin_level9..11 to decide if an element is in a village?

Ok Gerd
I didn't realise that , no wonder I'm having problems
Thanks for looking into that.

With the patch the value in the new tag mkgmap:residential is evaluated before any style rule is used. I see no way for you to pass the information from a node or way with place=village to another element with building=*

Gerd, that is a good point
It was just a thought that since points are parsed first one could perhaps set a flag when place=village is true
then
mkgmap:residiential=* & village=true . --> show buildings
So I was not thinking of mkgmap specifically

Would that be code in mkgmap or in your style? hmm, not sure what you want to point out. The tag mkgmap:residential may be set to other values than "yes", e.g. ways located in https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/454954092 should have mkgmap:residential=Bahnhofsviertel

Thanks Gerd
Works a treat although in my style I had to use
building=* & mkgmap:residential=yes {delete building}
in both polygons and lines (outlines).
Your efforts provide an addiitional bonus in that you may just want to show just the faint outlines of buildings.
Perhaps with some coding you could make exceptions for buildings in villages/hamlets...
