GUI for POI Search TYPES

Hi Gerd As promised have uploaded a simple no frills program that creates a mp file from a given range of POI types. I have encountered a problem with the mp parser not correctly including the POIs that lie on the border, so to speak, of the block of pois . I tried many a ruse to overcome the SEVERE outside map warning , then in the end tried it on cgpsmapper and it created the map correctly without chopping of some of the pois. You will see what I mean when you tst the program. www.pinns.co.uk/osm/poi_tester.html best Nick -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/GUI-for-POI-Search-TYPES-tp5847360.html Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Hi Nick, thanks a lot. Please check: The format of the DATA lines in our test data is Data0=(51.5256523,-0.0998416) while your program creates Data0=(52,0243.001,7,9768.001) I think this is the reason for the problem. I guess you have to set a locale? Gerd

Hi everyone, I can't run this software and I'm wondering what it does exactly. I understand that it creates an OSM file of a grid of all POI types in a specified range. Then you can run mkgmap to generate a Garmin map from this source file. If that's true, 1) mkgmap.jar produces a map of all POIs in a grid pattern when called without any argument. How does POI-tester compares to that ? 2) Why there's a dependency on mkgmap r3612 ? Thanks, Paco

Hi Paco 1) It does not create an osm file but an mp file. a) The program creates an img displaying ALL types and subtypes. The default style only uses a small number of pois It is meant to quickly test your device for any pois indexed or not and under which Garmin category ie When loading it onto your device you can find out a) which types numbers correspond to which Garmin category b) which other pois fall into the same Garmin category c) which new categories suddenlyt appear on your device !, ie Book stores etc d) which pois on your device are not indexed - Minko recently mentioned 0x2b05 for camp_site not being shown on some devices It helps you when you want to show say different icons for different fuel operators AND make them searchable 2) Why there's a dependency on mkgmap r3612 ? It will work with previous mkgmaps but not 100% - I'm not quite sure what the issue was HTH Nick On 07/06/2015 09:40, Paco Tyson [via GIS] wrote:

It will work with previous mkgmaps but not 100% - I'm not quite sure what the issue was
the problem was that mkgmap uses the rounded Garmin coordinates to calculate the tile boundaries, but later used high precision coordinates to test if the POI is within the boundary. With r3612 the tile boundary is enlarged by one unit when the high-prec value max was rounded down. Hi all, With r3614 I've updated the built-in generator to my current knowledge about valid types. Simple usage: java -jar mkgmap.jar --tdbfile test-map:all-elements java -jar mkgmap.jar --index --gmapsupp test-map:all-elements Further options: * Instructions for use: If you run this program with the environment * variables BASE_LAT and BASE_LONG set to something just SW of where you * are then the map generated will be located near where you are. Otherwise * the default location is at (51.7, 0.24). @Nick: Sorry, I forgot about this feature in mkgmap. I think it does now all that we need. Do you agree? Gerd GerdP wrote

Hi Gerd, yes it's pretty much the same. Just one "problem". Line 0x01-0x08 starting at same position as point 0x7f00-0x7f07. And between lines and areas the gap is a little bit to big. So I think all the lines should be shifted a column to the right. Otherwise: Very good job! Henning

Hi Henning, please try again r3615. I've changed the arrangements for lines and polygons so that 16 elements are drawn in one column. Note that some types are not displayed in MapSource without a typ file. Gerd

Hi Gerd, looks much better now. I've tried it on my Oregon 600. In some cases in the POI search the Oregon found a POI, but doesn't display a name. Is there any explanations for this behavior? Henning

Hi Henning, great. Reg. POI without name: I've noticed that in MapSource as well. Some POI are displayed as "0 m" and seem to mark a depth or height, same for some lines. I assume they are treated special, but I did not try to find out the details. The generator creates all names in the same way. Gerd

Hi Nick, thanks for the useful tool! Just a hint to your web-page. There is a blank to much in the command line for Basecamp between -- and tdbfile. Henning

Hi Henning Thanks for that will correct that. Nick On 07/06/2015 08:58, osm-8 [via GIS] wrote:
