Why do we have the "Area too small to split at ..." message

Hi, I wonder if this message is really useful. I see this typically for large shapes, the last example from Thorsten has two identical large shapes (the island Rügen) http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/54400 The message is printed because area.getEstimatedSizes() returns values that are higher than some limits. The problem: area.getEstimatedSizes() ignores the filters which are used to reduce the number of points, so the error message may be printed without any reason. I think it would be better to do something like this: oldPos = buffer.getPosition() add the shape bytes = buffer.getPosition() - oldPos; if (bytes > LIMIT) { print error message } This would also allow to report the name of the shape that is probably corrupted. Of course, the same can be done for ways or node. What do you think? Test failure in r2448

Hi Gerd I've re-enabled the nightly builds but the last one is 2447 as from 2448 there are test failures. One is because the roads are now added right at the end and the test does not call the converted end() method. The attached patch fixes that. The other is partially the same, but it appears that the resulting ways are also removed by the removeShortArcs routine. ..Steve

In the “relations” file I have this code: type=route & route=* { apply { set route='${route}'; set route_name='${name}'; set route_ref='${ref}' } } to extract name and ref of the route relation. The problem is: when it found more than one route relation on the same highway. This code extract only the route relation with the highest id... How can I change this code to extract ALL the route relation into one route_name? Is it possible? Thanks very much. --enrico

Hi Steve, I see this message when running ant ... compile: [javac] D:\mkgmap\build.xml:233: warning: 'includeantruntime' was not set, defaulting to build.sysclasspath=last; set to false for repeatable builds ... The attached patch sets includeantruntime=false . Is it okay to commit that? Question reg. precompiled bounds

Hi, the wiki says that I have two alternatives to extract boundary data from an OSM file, either osmfilter: "fast, resulting files contains some unused stuff that eats memory when precompiling bounds" or osmosis: "slow". What about a combination of both (first osmconvert, than use osmosis to filter the output of osmconvert) ? Map size increase using osmupdate vs download

Hi, I am unsure this is the best place to post this, but have a question regarding creating maps with osm maps updated with osmupdate. I usually start from an .osm.pbf map downloaded from Geofabrik, and in order to avoid downloading it again, I use osmupdate to maintain it (or a converted .o5m version of it) up to date. I noticed that my maps were becoming bigger and bigger, days after days, but *bigger than a plain redownload* of the map on Geofabrik. 1. Is this normal? Does osmupdate just append the changelog to the original file? 2. mkgmap-produced maps become significantly bigger too: is it normal too? 3. If the changelog is just appended to the map, is there a way to rebuild it from scratch to get the same map than on Geofabrik? Thanks for your help. Eric

Hi Today a got a strange message from mkgmap: WARNING: Style uses tag 'display_name' which is deprected and will be removed soon. Please use the new tag 'mkgmap:display_name' instead. I use a binary TYP file which is created by ati land (http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi) This editor nowhere shows a tag called 'display_name' as well as the decompiled text file. What do I have to change? Thanks. Thomas
