Mkgmap can read Bounds files and Style files from a zip file (and Splitter can read geonames from a zip file). Would this also be possible for precompiled sea, which comes from navmaps.eu as a zip file? Polygons deformed

Hi, I see that the polygons are deformed in MapSource compared to the online openstreetmap view. When I draw a polygon, I make perfect line and angles but when I see it compiled in MapSource it is not the same form. I don’t understand why. Thanks

Style function is_connected ?

Hi, would a new style function is_connected() be difficult to implement ? It should result "no" for example on this way: <http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/45838172> Because it is not connected to any other highway. Benefit: You could make such routing islands non routable. Greetings Chris

unicode

While reading the code, I stumbled upon code such as if ("unicode".equals(charset)) in src/uk/me/parabola/imgfmt/app/labelenc/CodeFunctions.java. mkgmap --help=options does not mention this option, but there’s a line #OSMDATA = --charset=unicode localtest/osm/czech_test.osm in the Makefile. So I tried this option, but what I got looks like all characters transliterated to just ASCII. Oops? I guess what I actually want to ask: since we’ve seen that newer devices have a rich character repertoire containing latin based, greek, cyrillic and arabic, I wonder whether it is only possible to access them via code pages, limiting us to a subset every time. Do you know whether there’s unicode support in recent devices? rj

city of riga not found

what i did : - generated a map with mkgmap r2479, splitter r200 - from geofabrik extract - with --location-autofill --bounds - bounds from http://navmaps.eu/index.php/developers/bound - used the map on garmin etrex vista hcx map does seem to include address information - at least i can find streets. but for some reason it does not find city of riga. there is a boundary : http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=98102157 and node : http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=138908 it finds suburbs of riga, for example : http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=98180985 http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=98191103 http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=98097860 why not the city ? :) -- Rich

character repertoires

There is support for a number of character sets in mkgmap, but do we have any collected wisdom about what character repertoires are supported on our devices? While at the hack weekend, I tried some latin2 on my new device and was pleasantly surprised that “šř” appeared in a street name – on my old GPSmap 60CSx with the very same gmapsupp.img, I see them as what looks like “.Ø” on the map and “◊Ø” in the tooltip when hovering over it. rj

Default style example invalid?

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a new map from scratch - using the default style from mkgmap. So I copied the $mkgmap/examples/style/default/ folder to my working direktory. If I try to compile a map, mkgmap (r2504) crashes with a stack overflow: java.lang.StackOverflowError at java.io.UnixFileSystem.getBooleanAttributes0(Native Method) at java.io.UnixFileSystem.getBooleanAttributes(UnixFileSystem.java:242) at java.io.File.isDirectory(File.java:799) at uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.osmstyle.StyleFileLoader.createStyleLoader(StyleFileLoader.java:56) at uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.osmstyle.StyleImpl.<init>(StyleImpl.java:133) at uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.osmstyle.StyleImpl.readBaseStyle(StyleImpl.java:515) at uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.osmstyle.StyleImpl.<init>(StyleImpl.java:141) The last two lines repeat a few hundred times. After exchanging the style with a style-set that works, the no errors occur and the map is generated as expected. Is there something wrong with the default style provided with the package (.tar.gz) or am I doing something wrong? Regards Steffen

Hi all, as a result of the hack weekend in Essen, which was very interesting by the way, I have thought about several improvements which, in general, can lead to better maps. Mistakenly, I have written my proposal to the list some weeks ago, but as I was new to the mailing list I had no mail from the current topic, so I replied to the wrong mail, which ended up in the wrong place. Version 2513 was committed by steve on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 Fix 'include' statement that is the very first statement in an included file. The very first statement in an included file was not being tested to see if it was an include command. As a result the 'include' token was was seen as a tag name and would lead to a syntax error. Now restart the conditional processing when ever a new file is included.
