I’ve been experimenting with the first 32 type codes (0x00-0x31) in Basecamp to see which types are shown and which are routable for walkers and automobiles. Some of the results may be of interest to others like me who are running out of routable ways and can be found in the ODS attached. Geoff

splitter input file handling

Hi all, while documenting the new splitter parms I wondered if anybody needs to be able to split two or more files using a command like java -jar splitter.jar file1.osm file2.osm This is not documented but implemented. What's the expected result if the two files overlap or if the two files cover two area that are far away from each other? I remember seeing this used with contour lines. Is that still needed? Did anybody test that with --keep-complete? Also, why is it needed to be able to read from stdin? cat file.osm | java -jar splitter.jar --split-file=areas.list Would it be okay to drop these two undocumented features? I've committed r259. Changes: - reject --keep-complete with stdin or multiple files as input. I used max-nodes=2 300 000 so it ends up with 143 tiles. 255 didn't give significant improvements (maybe 20 seconds). I will probably run splitter now with 1024 max-areas. Hope 8.4GB heap will be enough for it.. It would probably be good if the splitter assumes +50% or whatever you seem reasonable for max memory on areas for the first pass.. I will give 2048 max-areas a try too, just to see if I can split Europe in 1 pass. If it works, I'll stick with it. Still need to wait for the 2GB additional Ram for my server though... Still problems with lakes

Hi! I still have the problem that either lake Vänern in Sweden or lake Saimaa in Finland are partly rendered as land. The problem still exists using the latest precompiled sea from Wanmil. Using one of my older areas.list Vänern is OK but Saimaa is not. Letting the splitter create its own areas.list Saimaa is OK but then southern Vänern is dried out.

British National Grid and Latitude/Longitude

_British National Grid__ _ Some time ago I published an OSM format file for the British National Grid, as printed on Ordnance Survey maps. I have now updated this. There are two main changes: 1. The Way and Node IDs are now well out of the range of Open Street Map IDs, so the file can be processed simultaneously with other source files; 2. By omitting roughly 50% of internal nodes, and some formatting changes, the (uncompressed) file size is reduced from about 73MB to about 20MB for the same coverage. This has negligible effect on the final output, since the grid lines are very close to straight lines over a few kilometres. This file may be downloaded from http://www.rogercalvert.me.uk/OSM/GBGrid. _Latitude and Longitude_ In a similar manner, I have generated a file of lines of Latitude and Longitude. But since these are world wide, rather than limited to Great Britain, I have put a generator on line at http://www.rogercalvert.me.uk/OSM/LatLong <http://www.rogercalvert.me.uk/OSM/LAtLong>. A file will be generated in real time and downloaded for any (sensible) range of coordinates. For performance reasons, I have limited the download size to 10MB (which is enough to cover mainland Great Britain), but several downloads may be used to cover a larger region. Please let me know of any problems you encounter in accessing or using these. Hi all, I've committed r254. Changes to r252: - write polygon file area.poly with the shape of the calculated tiles. The content of this file depends on the parameters resolution and max-nodes. - try to trim tiles to the bounding polygon if a polygon file was given - with --no-trim=false (the default), trim outer tiles without creating gaps between tiles - new debugging parameter stop-after allows to stop execution after a pass was executed. Values "split", "gen-problem-list", and "handle-problem-list" can be used, default is dist which means normal processing. If you just want the area.list and area.poly, use --stop-after=split to stop execution In my eyes, this is a first release candidate, esp. I don't want to add more new features. I think there are now a few different ways to create tiles for e.g. France: a) download france.osm.pbf from geofabrik and ... a1) split it with default parameters (overlap=2000, keep-complete=false) a2) split it with keep-complete=true b) download planet.osm.pbf and split it with --keep-complete and polygon-file=france.poly a1) is the fastest, a2) is slower, but probably better, b) is much slower, but may help if you miss e.g. ferry lines going from france to Ireland Gerd -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/splitter-r254-tp5739717.html Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

6 Empire State Plaza Albany, NY 12228-0330 this is the real mailing address for the motor vehicle department, and the Empire State Plaza is not a street, it's a (rather large) building complex. not sure how this might be handled in the garmin... richard
