As before, specifying --replace-short-arcs will replace zero length arcs but if you specify a minimum length, e.g. --replace-short-arcs=3.5 then all arcs shorter than that distance will be removed.

Either mkgmap error or splitter error

Great work of you in development of this software. But I have a problem in creating a map of the Netherlands. Mkgmap reports an error, because the map is too large. So I used splitter with the --max-nodes option and decreased the number down to 1000000, but now I get an error in splitter (Relation in too many areas). Ignoring this error will cause a problem in Mapsource, zooming in and out doesn't work correct (no screen updating) and some tiles are completely empty. In the forum I couldn't get an answer for this problem. My only solution is to delete all tracks POIs and paths in mkgmap style-file to reduce the osm-data, but in this way I lose a lot of information, what I don't want to do. Can you tell me what I have to do for creating an error free map with all available osm data? Greetings, Ralf

--make opposite cycleways not working consistently.

For me there are several problems with this option. 1. I think if roads are running on top of each other, there is no clear rule which one is chosen by tags. There must be some rule because it will work consistently for some routes, and will not work consistently for others, even though they are tagged 100% identical (or only name is different). 2. Problem which happens in 80% of all working streets can be seen below: Opposite_lane - Route Distance 111m. = Worked correctly Same Place but starting in the middle of the Road. Route Distance 120m. Not Working. 3. On my maps on about 25% of all roads it does not work at all! Anyone else having similar problems? To help identify oneway cyclways change your style-file to this or change type completly, so you are sure not to miss any "opposite" ways (adapt of course to your type): cycleway=opposite_lane { name 'opposite_lane' } [0x03 road_class=1 road_speed=2 resolution 22] cycleway=opposite_track { name 'opposite_track' } [0x03 road_class=0 road_speed=1 resolution 22] cycleway=opposite { name 'opposite' } [0x03 road_class=0 road_speed=2 resolution 22] cycleway=lane { name 'lane' } [0x03 road_class=2 road_speed=2 resolution 22] cycleway=track { name 'track' } [0x03 road_class=0 road_speed=1 resolution 22]

Now, instead of croaking when too many nodes are in a region, it throws them away and tries to continue the best it can. The routing will be broken in that region but it would have been wacky anyway even if the nodes had been processed normally.

As promised, here's a patch that will let you specify a min arc length like this --replace-short-arcs=3.5. If you don't specify a length, it will only remove zero-length arcs (as it does now). Cheers, Mark

max-speed and arbitrary values

Is it possible to encode arbitrary maxspeed values or can we only set in steps of 10km/h? For example having road road_speed=7 associated with 35km/h, road road_speed=6 with 27, road_speed=5 with 23, road_speed=4 with 20, road_speed=3 with 17, road_speed=2 with 10 and road_speed=1 with 5km/h. The difference this should make would be enough to only set road_class=2, 1 and 0 and avoid the big time penalties for sharp turns that happen in road_class 4 and 3. This would be great for bicycle maps. In Mapsource one can change the speed oneself, I noticed that dividing default speeds by a factor of 3.5 produces pretty good estimation of arrival times for bicylces (when using the car/motorcycle setting, as bicycle produces rubbish routes) but on the GPS this is not possible. @Thilo, do you understand the code good enough to write a patch for this if possible.? I have problems understanding in which files the maxspeed is handled. Cheers, Felix

Problem routing over very short roads

1. See here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=48.084294&lon=16.296498&zoom=18 Have a look at the street running paralell to the railwaylines (name Thomas-Tamussino-Straße, ref B11). Mappers have nicely and correctly entered the bridge. The section after the bridge is only about 3m long, because after the next intersection the street name changes. On compiling, these 3m get dropped and are missing. What's even worse, because the section is so short, Any autorouting wanting to go over that place, crashes in Mapsource (at least it does not crash Mapsource however, only route calculation stops with error). Here is a small screenshot of how it looks like on 20m zoom in Mapsource: I'm more than sure that there are several other places were we face the same problem, which at first look seem like mappers made mistake and did not connect road, but in reality it's one of those road segments shorter than 3.4m getting dropped.

[PATCH] Generate copies of ways using the relations style file *Experimental*

The attached patch allows to generate ways from a relation. To do so simply write the way generating statement into your relations style file, e.g. type=route & route=bicycle & network=tcn { name 'Touristic cycleroute' } [ 0x02 road_class=3 road_speed=6 level 3 ] If one way is a member of several relations one copy of the way will be generated for each relation (and also another one if the way matches also in the lines style file). The name of the generated way is the name of the relation. The access tag must be set explicitly in the relations style file, as (except the "oneway" tag) no tags are copied from the original way into the generated way. I consider this patch experimental, but as I have it in use now for some days and it works fine I though I might publish it. It is really useful for cycle maps. Regards Thilo
