Address search and cities with "Umlauts" in their name

What I noticed on the last updates: *Improvements:* With the latest updates the problem of not being able to find streets starting with "A" is solved. *Not able to find addresses in cities that have an "Umlaut" in their name:* I am not sure if this was already working or not In the "search address" if you only search for a street name, you find the address. When adding however (the correct) the city also, no address is found anymore. There seems to be the problem that in the city index,cities are registered WITH Umlaut. In the full address WITHOUT Umlaut. I cannot enter "Moedling" to search for a city / not accepted as city in the address tab. However address is fund like this: I have noticed this problem in all cities with "ö" in their name (5 cities) that I have tried out. "French" Accents like é do not pose problems in Mapsource (can't retest on gps because most tiles in France cannot be transferred to GPS).

Version 1283 was commited by steve on 2009-10-16 15:21:25 +0100 (Fri, 16 Oct 2009) Merged the MDR code back to trunk One change to compare labels ignoring case was required to produce identical img files. Plus unrelated test failure from when the size of the NOD section was reduced fixed. Note that the default overview-mapname is now osmmap rather than 63240000. The --index option creates a global index file, named by default osmmap_mdr.img along with an osmmap.mdx file. Although this should not have affected any existing feature, it is a rather large change so please be on the lookout for any problems.

--index and TYP files

Just trying out this new option and I get: Could not open /home/markb/OSM/M0000000.TYP when creating mdr file Now I can see that it's barfing on the TYP file that I want to include in my gmapsupp.img. Is it possible to ignore the TYP file as far as the MDR is concerned or do I have to change how I make the map? Cheers, Mark

Added option to sanity check roundabout flare roads

As part of my current thrust to improve the mapping of the world's roundabouts, I have added an option that checks the sanity of roundabout flare roads. It probably can be fooled by some valid data but it's pretty good at finding bad roundabout flares. Specifically, it's looking for these errors: flare roads that point in the wrong direction flare roads that are not oneway flare roads that start or end beyond the "flare triangle" The UK map is very poor in this regard. I think I can do more to improve the routing in the UK now by just fixing the OSM data rather than working on mkgmap! You may want to enable this occasionally to help weed out the cruft in your maps.
