Basecamp 4.2.2 Inter-tile routing problem

Has anyone experienced problems with the latest version of Basecamp routing across OSM tiles? If I have Routing configured to avoid Interstates, I get large detours. With Interstates not avoided, routing works as before. It doesn't matter whether the transportation method is Car or Bicycle. See attached for an example. I get the problem for every route I have tried crossing a tile boundary. Steve

Hi Steve, sounds like the problem described by Felix: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Stronger-Intertile-Routing-Problems-with-Base... Is anyone with routable Garmnin maps able to reproduce this problem? Gerd Steve Brophy wrote

Yes, someone reported that too, he selected avoid highways (although I strongly advice users not to use this avoidance, because the major highways on my bike maps are the cycleways) and noticed that routing across tile borders became impossible.

Well, ff that happens also with Garmin maps like City Navigator we probably don't do anything wrong. Gerd

I had no problem routing with or without Interstate avoidances, with the same (or very similar) route. See attached, and yes I did recalculate the route. Also using 4.2.2. My map is designed for walking and thus I do not add routing to motorways, but I do allow routing for footways, cycleways etc. Steve, you look to be using overlays to put blue dots on ways, if these overlays are also routable it can break routing. Hi, Steve, here are my settings for motorways: highway=motorway {add oneway=yes; add horse=no; add bicycle=no; add foot=no} highway=* & motorroad=yes {add oneway=yes; add horse=no; add bicycle=no; add foot=no} # set highway names to include the reference if there is one highway=motorway {name '${name} ${ref|highway-symbol:hbox}' | '${ref|highway-symbol:hbox}' | '${name}'} highway=* & motorroad=yes {name '${name} ${ref|highway-symbol:hbox}' | '${ref|highway-symbol:hbox}' | '${name}'} # convert links to generic ways highway=motorway_link {set highway=motorway} highway=motorway [0x10e0a level 3-7 continue] highway=motorway [0x10f01 level 2] highway=* & motorroad=yes [0x10e0b level 3-4 continue] highway=* & motorroad=yes [0x10f02 level 2] Minko, I'm not sure what you are asking, but I found a very broken route which should be <= 0.5 miles - see Mapsource screenshots attached. It seems you can "force" the correct route by adding an extra point just after the tile boundary. Hi, I have investigated a bit cases, where roads intersect tile boundary at small angle. I have found many places, where routing is broken in both, BaseCamp and Mapsource. Some screen shoots attached, I hope they appear at mailing list. Map was compiled with recent mkgmap 2661, routing in Mapsource set to car/motorcycle, faster time. -- Best regards, Andrzej

I have just tried Andrzej's test and I can confirm in many instances this seems true. But I have found the odd case where routing does as expected as well. Curious. My settings where Pedestrian, so shortest distance. Gerd, I tried to reproduce the problem with City Navigator Europe NTU 2013.4, but could not do so. Geoff, The blue dots are indeed an overlay, but are not route-able. How are you dealing with Motorways in your style file? I tried using 0x02 rather than 0x01, but it made no difference Thanks for testing, Steve On 3 August 2013 15:50, Geoff Sherlock <geoffrey_sherlock@btinternet.com>wrote:

okay, thanks. Can anybody reproduce the problem with an old (non-NT) City Navigator map? By the way: Is it possible to buy such an old map? I have just reproduced the problem with a map downloaded from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/. So, it isn't my build that is causing this. Steve On 4 August 2013 07:55, GerdP <gpetermann_muenchen@hotmail.com> wrote:

This seems to be an old bug ... I'm able to reproduce it with BaseCamp 4.0.2 (Windows) and a map (Freizeitkarte Deutschland) from February 2013. But it seems that I'm not able to reproduce the effect with BaseCamp 4.2.1 (Mac) ... peculiar. Geoff, Regarding your use of non-routable lines for motorways, did you also do this for trunk roads? I found that, by making motorways and trunk roads class 3 (rather than class 4), then routing works across tiles as expected even with the interstates avoidance set. Of course, this probably defeats the object, since there are now no more interstates to avoid (assuming class 4 is the definition of an interstate)! No, my trunk roads are routable as many have pavements beside them and make a useful link between footpaths.. It is only motorways and roads with motorway like access restrictions I do not route down. It may well be down to the class 4 change though. Next time I am on the laptop I will check what class my trunk routes are. Geoff Steve Brophy <steve.brophy@gmail.com> wrote:

Today Garmin has updated the Mac version of BaseCamp to release 4.2.2. With this release I'm able to reproduce the inter-tile routing problem. This means (imho): Garmin has changed something general. Possible workaround: Do not set the option "Road Type Avoidances - Interstates". Klaus -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Basecamp-4-2-2-Inter-tile-routing-problem-tp5... We have a lot of complaints concerning the confuse routing ... no one has an idea? Regards Klaus -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Basecamp-4-2-2-Inter-tile-routing-problem-tp5... Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

No idea, but if the original Garmin maps with the old format (non-NT) show the same problem I think it is not related to mkgmap. I don't have such a map, so I can't test it :-( Gerd -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Basecamp-4-2-2-Inter-tile-routing-problem-tp5...
