Version 1262 was commited by steve on 2009-10-05 22:17:25 +0100 (Mon, 05 Oct 2009) BRANCH: mdr Rework the city code. Now works even if there is more than one map in the set.

The last mdr-version which i used with suceess was 1259. Things i observed by trying search and find with "Search citys" in Mapsource: 1: there seems to be a problem with german umlauts. "City" page: You can't enter Citys which contains characters like Ö, ä,ü in the City-field. But if i only enter some leading characters like e.g "Zer" i get as result also "Zerm?Llen". If i press then "search" sometimes(not always) Zermüllen(which is the correct form of writing) will be found with "Zermüllen,Zermü?Len" in the "Places" window 2: for citys without umlauts i get always multiple outputs in the result (Places) window even if only one city with the searched name exist 3: "feature" page i can't enter a single character in the city field 4: "adress" page i can't enter a single character in the city field cheers Gert P.S r1263 => same procedure as with 1262

The code to deal with non-ascii characters was completely not implemented, but it should now work (apart from the fact that the suggestions are not sorted in the standard way). I believe that there is a problem with very small map sets that causes problems downloading to a device, so make sure that you are making an index from a large enough map or several maps. ..Steve

I believe that there is a problem with very small map sets that causes problems downloading to a device, so make sure that you are making an index from a large enough map or several maps.
Which can explain the problems I encountered before as I was playing with a small map to have mkgmap run very fast. I will try with a bigger map then. Thanks, N.

I confirm it: If I work with a map of the whole state of Michigan, upload works fine. If I work with a smaller map (Detroit area), upload fails and MapSource crashes whenever I try to input a city in the search panels. Thanks, N.

Hm, and why can i transfer the same map, if i compile it with mkgmap-mdr-r1259 but no more with mkgmap-mdr-r1261 - mkgmap-mdr-r1266?
cheers Gert

Because with 1259 the MDR was not transferred to the device, whereas in 1261+ it is, so there are more things to go wrong. Anyway try 1268, as I don't have any problems transferring maps with this version, even small ones where find doesn't work. ..Steve

Already done but without success. What size we're talking about ? My mapfile in mp-format is 9MB (as osm ~45 MB). I also tried one with 85 MB in mp-format, but this also fails. Also a attempt transfering the map together with Metroguide maptiles failed. Only removing all cities from the data helps. Sadly i'm not a programmer, so i can't help. thanx Gert

Update: Meanwhile i created the index for 4 tiles of the Germany map of openmtbmap.org and build a mapset out of this. Yeah, this mapset out of 4 img with 17-20MB each i could successfully transfer to my 60csx. Gert

Oh good! Also I've had a crash with the geofabrik Berlin extract while transferring, so there is a chance I may be able to fix it. I see some problems with 'Find' on most single map extracts, the smaller the map is, the more problems there are. Tiny maps that pretty much fit on to one sceen are about unusable even searching for cities. Regards, ..Steve

Hi, Steve i have just finished one more test with mdr-r1266. I found an older version(little less data but almost the same) of my map which was former splitted into 26 tiles. 22 of them i can transfer as single tile or selected group of tiles. But 4 of the 26 tiles causes the exception MDR_TRIM_ADDR in Mapsoure during the transfer. In the moment i can't see anything special in the areas which are covered by these tiles. Gert

Hi, Steve, just to give you a feedback. With mdr-r1276 (mdr-r1275 i don't tested it) transfering of small maps works fine. The riddle above was very simple at least. The 4 untransferable tiles are the only one where i used real citys. The other don't have. They only have settlements 0x1100. cheers Gert
