Hi, I am looking for a way to create a dummy OSM file so I can test icons and styles without actually adding them to the real OSM database. Let's say I'm working on a new icon, or a style rule, and want to run several tests to make sure the statements are correct and the icon looks good. Another use for such a file would be so I could see all my custom icons grouped close enough together to fit in one Basecamp screen shot. Can anyone suggest how I might do this? -- Dave Swarthout Homer, Alaska Chiang Mai, Thailand Travel Blog at http://dswarthout.blogspot.com

Hi Dave, I make a small map in JOSM with all the features I want to test and save it as *.osm file (without uploading it!). You can then execute mkgmap on this osm test file.
