Mysterious capitalisation (or not) of labels
mkgmap, or Mapsource, or Garmin in general, seems to have inconsistent capitalisation of labels. Take the following two buildings: Building 1 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/99899451) name=Khalidiya Palace Tower A building=yes Building 2 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/99899455) name=Khalidiya Palace Tower C building=yes In Mapsource (6.16.3) these labels render differently (see attached). Building 1 renders as Khalidiya Palace Tower a Building 2 label renders as Khalidiya Palace Tower C Is this a bug in mkgmap or a bug in Mapsource? -- Charlie

I think, this is a Garmin problem. A single letter A is always displayed in lower case. I guess, this is due to the indefinite article of the english language. In my maps I have this problem with the german motorways, which have a name like "A 1", "A 2" and so on, but in my maps they are always displayed as "a 1" and "a 2" and so on. Gruss Torsten
Does anybody take a look on this page? http://developer.garmin.com/linux/ There you can find the source for some devices. Maybe we can get more informations about the file-format of garmin maps? Cheers Martin
A year ago I have looked through the sources. The navi application is not contained in it, as it is not open source and there are no needs in making the sources public.
