If you use gmapi format there are however also many disadvantages. Cannot quickly create a gmapsupp.img with mkgmap. Export of gmapsupp.img with MapInstall is slower while some other things are just different. It's more complicated to find bugs with multiple maps (if for example you do not move them by hand but by Garmin Mapinstall - and then some maps are in user and some in general folder. There are actually several folders that are possible to be used). I personally really prefer the old format and using registry vs and info.xml and gmapi format. Rather than having to edit the registry use the –gmapi option in mkgmap which will create a folder with a .gmap extension. Copy or move this folder to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps and the map will be visible to Basecamp. Note ProgramData is a hidden folder.
This avoids having to edit the registry or create reg files.

Its working on all Windows Versions 10 and 11 since i use maps created by mkgmap
