I am trying to create a nightmode styling for my osm-ph gps maps. A good inspiration are radarmaps: http://justin.everett-church.com/ymaps/radarMaps.html Please share some tips in creating this style. Another thing, this maybe far fetched, but is there any desktop img viewer that can load the night mode style other than viewing it in the GPS itself? [PATCH] Add countries to LocatorConfig

Some months ago I sent this patch to include Spain and Portugal in LocatorConfig.xml, but no one seemed to commit it. I've been using it all this time without any problem, so I think it's safe to be committed to trunk. Could some of the developers do it please? Cheers Carlos

Fun with splitter tile descriptions

I found it somewhat annoying that my tiles always had identical generic descriptions such as "OSM Map". It made it very difficult to recognise which tiles belonged to which areas, in particular when attempting to select specific tiles on my GPSr. Since my maps could have over 200 tiles, it was tedious to add descriptive names manually. To solve this, I performed the following small hack, which might be interesting to others with a similar predicament: - I created a Perl script which read the tile boundaries from the areas.list file generated by splitter. - For each bounding box, I called a webservice from GeoNames to retrieve a list of populated areas (cities, etc.) within the tile. - For each populated area within the tile, I called another webservice to determine the population of that area. - I determined the city with the largest population, and then wrote the ISO country code and name of the city to the description parameter in template.args. To my astonishment, this worked rather well. Style File Problem

I've battled trying to narrow this down for a couple of days. I have a lines style file that contains: highway=* & maxspeed=40mph {set mcssl=40} highway=primary & mcssl=40 [0x04 resolution 19] highway=* & mcssl=40 [0x04 resolution 22] I'm then running a stripped down (in JSOM) set of OSM data against this. The data file contains two roads. The first road is the original, whilst the second is a copy (in JOSM) with a name added (and dragged a bit so it is visible). Both have primary=highway and maxspeed=40mph. To me it seems that as both ways have the same maxspeed and highway attributes they should both become visible at the same resolution (ie. 19). However, they don't. The one without the name becomes visible at 3mi (which I guess is 19), whilst the one with the name becomes visible at 0.5mi (which I guess is 22). It seems therefore that having a name key (or a given value for that key) affects the style file somehow. I've tried to look at the code but have no idea where to start (as my Java knowledge is virtually zero and I don't know how data moves through the mkgmap). Files are attached. Problem with oneway=-1

Hi, 1. I think reversing ways with oneway=-1 is run before parsing the stylefile. Could it be changed to run afterwards, or else make it possible to give a command in style-file to change direction of way? Reason being, is that I intend to make steep streets oneway in the downhill direction: While the following works and correctly sets the oneway tag: highway=path & incline<-25 { set oneway=1 } The following will not work and street will be possible to be used in both directions: highway=path & incline>25 { set oneway=-1 } I have looked through rev 1040 when it was introduced, but could not find out how to patch it to run later. There is a second problem I have with the incline key, but it touches a completely different topic, so I send another mail for it. 2. not only oneway=-1 is an approved map feature, but also oneway=reverse. Current code will only reverse ways tagged oneway=-1, this should be extended to oneway=reverse.

The incline tag can be defined with the following units. The following has all the same meaning: incline=100 incline=100% incline=45° default is assumed to be %. Now in the style-file having a line checking for incline>90 will catch both incline=100 and incline=100% but not incline=45° It is impossible however to get deegrees translated into percent or to have a line checking for incline>45° > and non numeric character will through an error. This is not of big importance to me, but the day we have a proper preprocessor available, % values and values with indication should be changed to ° before handing them over to be read by the style-file (not the other way around because 90° is not defined in %).
