Hi Steve, I plan to use a KD tree in the house number code. I noticed that the existing Kd-tree implementation in MapPointKdTtree is only usable with MapPoint instances, although it only uses the getLocation() method . I think this should be replaced using general interface Locatable() with method getLocation() and and general Kd-Tree implementaion for classes that implement the Locatable interface. The attached patch shows what I mean. What do you think about it? Do you see better names or packages for this? Gerd

Splitter - missing area, trim not working

Hi, I'm trying to create contour map of Europe. I have created a rectangle area with contours using phyghtmap and then clipped it to europe.poly using osmosis. I'm working with splitter 421. My first split of data went wrong, some parts of north Scandinavia was missing. After some trying, I have found that adding option --polygon-file=europe.poly helps and map contains all data. But at the same time trimming of tiles stopped working and I'm getting some big empty tiles. I have attached a picture, showing all examples of splits. You can see, that without bounding polygon trim works but some data is missing. And with polygon trim doesn't work. My map will be transparent, without background polygon. I prefer to get tile area covering only existing data, which require trim to work. And I don't like empty tiles. I'm not sure what could help to debug this problem. Source data is about 1.3GB, I can upload it. -- Best regards, Andrzej

routing problem: highways on different layers use the same node

Sometimes one can find highways on different layers (e.g. one raod on and the other below a bridge) using the same node. Routing created with mkgmap seems not to care about the different layers of the highways and creates inappropriate turning instructions from the upper road directly to the lower. Is someone out there who can confirm that, is there someone to fix that? (Don't ask me for examples, I already seperated those discovered highway nodes in OSM).

addr:interpolation ways not along road

Hi all, I wonder if mkgmap should treat this a valid addr:interpolation way: http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/32922365 The wiki says: "How to interpolate the house numbers belonging to the way along the respective street." but this way connects house numbers which are up to 170 m away from the road named Bergweg, so I think it is not "along" the respective street. With r3502 I've added checks to ignore numbers which belong to invalid addr:interpolation ways, and this detection says it is invalid. I've kept this with r3503. This also happens for some other addr:interpolation ways for the way 25748155. Please let me know when you think that this is too aggressive. weired housenumbers in Canada

Hi all, in Canada, a lot of OSM data comes from imports, e.g. source=NRCan-CanVec-8.0 or NRCan-CanVec-10.0 I think the house number data provided by these imports is more or less garbage. I see many ways like this: http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/133338396 It is an addr:interpolation way connecting two different points which both have addr:housenumber=5 addr:street=20th Sideroad In many cases I see two of these meaningless objects, one with source=NRCan-CanVec-8.0, one with source=NRCan-CanVec-10.0. I think the only way to handle this data is to ignore it, if mkgmap finds an addr:interpolation way connecting two equal numbers, we should ignore the numbers. Right? Gerd

address search and road names with refs

Hi all, if I got it right, the default style creates roads with names like (B101) Leipziger Strasse for this way http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/144257391 with name=Leipziger Straße and ref=B101 With the new --x-split-name-index option I will find this road when I search for "Leipziger", but when I know an address like "Leipziger Str. xxx, Freiberg" I have to select the right version of the street if the list shows also other entries like "Leipziger Strasse" (without the ref), means, I have to try the different versions until one shows a plausible result for the given number xxx. I wonder if this could be improved somehow? How do Garmin maps handle this? Why is there a code-page in the .typ-file? And - is there a code-page a gmapsupp.img?

Hi Everyone 1. Switching to unicode I ask myself If I should also change the typ-file to code-page=65001 - is this only for the case that you want to label a line/poi/polygon using unicode characters - or should any .typ-file that is "bundled" by a unicode map, also be unicode? Does anyone know a garmin unicode map that has a .typ-file? 2. I couldn't notice any change on compiling a gmapsupp.img regarding a code-page set. Is there actually a code-page for a gmapsupp.img?
