no cities found on large areas with --x-split-name-index option

Hi, I ran into a problem with the --x-split-name-index option. When I build the geofabrik extract for Ontario with the following options, the 'Where to -> Cities -> Spell Name' works properly. http://download.geofabrik.de/north-america/canada/ontario-latest.osm.pbf java -jar splitter/dist/splitter.jar --geonames-file=cities1000.zip --output=o5m --mapid=20244000 --max-threads=1 --status-freq=0 --max-areas=50 ontario-latest.osm.pbf java -jar mkgmap/dist/mkgmap.jar --route --add-pois-to-areas --bounds=bounds_20160628.zip --index --gmapsupp --housenumbers -c template.args --x-split-name-index --description="Ontario Test" When I build the geofabrik extract for Canada with the same options, the 'Where to -> Cities -> Spell Name' doesn't work. http://download.geofabrik.de/north-america/canada-latest.osm.pbf java -jar splitter/dist/splitter.jar --geonames-file=cities1000.zip --output=o5m --mapid=20244000 --max-threads=1 --status-freq=0 --max-areas=50 canada-latest.osm.pbf java -jar mkgmap/dist/mkgmap.jar --route --add-pois-to-areas --bounds=bounds_20160628.zip --index --gmapsupp --housenumbers -c template.args --x-split-name-index --description="Canada Test" For the map of Canada, the cities still show up in the list but they aren't found if you search for them. Removing --x-split-name-index fixes the problem. It's not a huge issue because I can just remove this option but I did want to report the problem to you. Thanks, Ben

Displaying highway shields on custom highway symbology

Greetings list. I have added code to my style file to display highway shields on highways, as is customary on maps in the United States. This works fine as long as I use the default mkgmap symbology. I tried substituting some custom linetypes for my highways, using a TYP file, and the shields disappeared. Do the shields only work with the default symbology? Mark Bradley

Removing building polygons from the map

Hi everyone, The styles I am using add polygons to every building on the map. I never thought it was a problem, but recently someone did a mass import of all the buildings in my city and I started to get performance problems during GPS use. I want to avoid the polygons on the map, but I don't want to miss the POIs. I had partial success editing the polygon style file and removing this line: |# building tag should be last #(building=* | amenity=*) & area!=no & amenity!=grave_yard [0x13 resolution 24]| I believe this removes all buildings for which there's no other rule converting it to a POI. Can I remove all the other building polys too, since I am using the --add-pois-to-areas option, or I this will discard all the POIs? Thanks in advance, Alexandre de Menezes

Hi Is there a way using mkgmap to directly show the osmc:symbol in basecamp & on the garmin. I am able to show the contents of the osmc:symbol in basecamp and on the garmin but I want to generate the osmc:symbol itself and have it disploay without having to create a complete set of custom icons in the typ file.. Any thoughts? Thanks. Bill

Has anyone added a USA TIMEZONE overlay ontop of their custom maps?

Since I cannot seem to get this feature added to the OSM database (because it is not verifiable, or something) has anyone got this data from a different source and combined to maps together so I can tell when riding across the counrty thay I am crossing a timezone?? Greg

Greetings Marko, Thank you for the informative website. I have been having issues with my Garmin Edge 705 seeing the map SD card and was hoping i could get copied of on older GCD file. I’ve been reading that downgrading then upgrading might take care of issue with the 705. Would it be possible to get the file 3468836 Edge605_705_310.gcd from you? Thank you, Roger Stevenson

Land flooded

when i use the --precomp-sea= option with a file download from http://osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/sea/latest/sea.zip I get the sea flooding the land, I don't use any options, it seems to be fine when viewed on Basecamp, but not when i put the map on to a hcx legend.

Bicycle Lane (Right only) works in BaseCamp, but shows up opposite (left side) in Montana 600
