r3678 and overview map problems

Hi all, I got no feedback on the do_not_split_0x4a_polygon.patch which I provided to fix the problems reported by Thomas and Andrzej, see http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/How-do-I-transform-the-name-of-all-Ways-tp58… I checked older versions of the source and found out that older versions of the code did contain a special treatment for the 0x4a polygons, I removed those in the overview2 branch and I don't exactly remember why, so I've reverted that part of the change. I have the feeling that the code should be changed somewere else, the tests in PolygonSubdivSizeSplitterFilter.java were introduced by WanMil long before we changed the split algo in MapSplitter. Both sources use diverse hard coded limits, and I have no idea why these are not relevant for 0x4a polygons. I assume that there is a maximum tile size (at least we have it in splitter) so maybe mkgmap should stop with an error message when one tries to create a map with larger tiles? Gerd

Hi all, When I search in Mapource or in Nüvi for any city and use the countryfilter,somecountriesaredisplayedin2spellings.Example : 'DEU (Deutschland)' and 'Deutschland (DEU)'. The same is for Estland, Finnland, Griechenland, Egypt, Färoer, Dänemark, Italy. Kosova and Kosovo. France has 3 spelling's .Why are this entrys doubled. ? It is not a great problem ,but is confusing. The problem existis a long time ago. thomas

Roundabouts causes crashing devices

Hi list, Many users of my Openfietsmap are reporting crashes when approaching roundabouts. Some notice it before they enter the roundabout, others report that the device dies on the roundabout itself. In many cases those roundabouts are with cycle routes, so I have removed the bicycle routes from those roundabouts. Some report this fix works, others still complain of crashing the device. There are also cases without any cycle route involved so I wonder if this happens only with my maps. It happens with recent GPS devices like the Oregon 6xx series, Garmin Edge Touring and 8xx, GPS map 62 and 64. It does not happen with older devices. I cannot find any roundabout in my vicinty to reproduce it so it does not happen all the time with every firmware. The only thing that all those reports have in common is that it happens near a roundabout, the device is dying slowly, turning it back on will make it work again. Did anyone here have seen the same behaviour?

Can mkgmap be used to read back in IMG files?

Hi, I'm wondering if mkgmap can be used the other way around, given an IMG file, extract the road network from it and perform routing operations? Looking at the code it seems to be a full implementation of the IMG filesystem which includes both reading and writing. Is this true? The main thing I want to know: Can I extract the road network (and routing information) from a Garmin IMG file, and use it in an OSM routing engine for example? Kind Regards, Jarno Le Conté

Wrong routing in some closed roundabount

Hi guys, We note in our group a strange behavior in some roundabounts that are complete loops. Investigating, we discovered that when the starting and ending points of a roundabout coincides with a rountable node, we are able to route through this roundabout. However, if the starting and ending points of a roundabout don't match a rountable node, we have problem to route through this roundabout. incorporating available data sets into osm

Hi I am new to osm and am not sure if this is the appropriate forum in which to ask this question so if it is not, I would appreciate any direction with respect to the best place to post it. I am working in the Northeastern US. Many streams are missing from the map. I found a site http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/nhd2002.html that contains a shapefile of streams in NJ. I want to determine if there is a method for bulk upload of such data AND if it would be permitted. I have attached a txt file that accompanies the shp file that says " Data Distribution Agreement I. Description of Data to be Provided. The data provided herein are distributed subject to the following conditions and restrictions: SUBJECT DATA LAYERS For all data contained herein, NJDEP makes no representations of any kind, including, but not limited to, the warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular use, nor are any such warranties to be implied with respect to the digital data layers furnished hereunder. NJDEP assumes no responsibility to maintain them in any manner or form. II.Terms of Agreement 1. Digital data received from the NJDEP are to be used solely for internal purposes in the conduct of daily affairs. 2. The data are provided, as is, without warranty of any kind and the user is responsible for understanding the accuracy limitations of all digital data layers provided herein, as documented in the accompanying cross-reference files (see SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION). Any reproduction or manipulation of the above data must ensure that the coordinate reference system remains intact. * 3. Digital data received from the NJDEP may not be reproduced or redistributed for use by anyone without first obtaining written permission from the NJDEP. How do I transform the name of all Ways?

Hi everyone, I want to do some transformations on the names of all the Ways, is there a standard way to do that? For example, I want to replace all occurrences of "Avenida" for "Av.". I tried adding this to my lines file: |highway=* & name ~ '(?i)avenida\s+.*' { add streettype:movedend='${name|subst:(?i)avenida\s+~>}, Av.'} #| But There was no effect. Thanks in advance, Alexandre
