patch to write polygons in decreasing order

Hi I have a patch that outputs polygons into the map file in decreasing size order, so that, assuming equal _drawOrder, the Garmin device renders small details over larger areas, much like how they appear on OpenStreetMap.org. As well as sorting by size, polygons that straddle subDivisions are cut up and placed into their correct subdivision, rather than being put into an arbirary one, which, if it isn't the one in focus, renders over the focus subdivision. The original, full, area of polygons is tracked through a ny cutting and clipping so that relative ordering is correct across subdivision and map boundaries. All this is controlled by the option --order-by-decreasing-area, with a default of false that leaves the behavior of mkgmap unchanged. A s such, I think this patch could be applied to the trunk development. Regards Ticker Berkin mk

Extended conversions

Attached is a patch that extends available conversions including weight units (t, kg, lb and lbs) and feet. According to [1] and other places in the wiki, feet-inches values should be entered in the X'X" form, not using XftXin or XfeetXinches, so I think we should also have a conversion rule for the X'X" format, but I don't know how to accomplish it. Generating index for State/Province instead of City

Hi all, I've been learning mkgmap and have had good results. So far I've downloaded tiles from garmin.openstreetmap.nl, and the boundaries and sea zip files linked to from there, and successfully combined them into a 1.3GB routable & indexed gmapprom.img to replace the one that came with my Garmin nuvi 200. (Which I have backed-up) One small issue- with the factory maps, searching for an address would ask "Search County (or all)", then "State/Province (or all)" before asking for the street address. With the OSM maps, my nuvi is asking for "City" instead of "State/Province." How can build a map that indexes on "Region" (State, Province) boundaries instead of "City" boundaries? Or even, indexes on both levels, that could be useful also. Here's how I built the map, on a Windows box with many drives: java -Xmx1650m -jar mkgmap.jar --gmapsupp --precomp-sea=i:\maps-new_style\sea_20161017.zip --generate-sea --route --drive-on=detect,right --process-destination --process-exits --index --bounds=i:\maps-new_style\bounds_20161017.zip --location-autofill=is_in,nearest --x-split-name-index --housenumbers --add-pois-to-areas --remove-ovm-work-files "i:\maps-new_style\NE-USA,Can"\*.img I'm guessing the answer is in the "style" and not on the command-line... I tried copying the default style, editing the "address" file, and using the new style with "--style-file=..." but it didn't seem to have any effect. I didn't really know what I was doing, so I reverted the changes. -y

Adding an index, bounds to an already-merged ".img" file

Hello again dear map & Garmin-hackers, I've also built a routable 3.5GB gmapsupp.img for my nuvi 200's SD card and been able to route a long drive that ends deep into the new map. Because the map was larger than my 32-bit Java could handle, I joined using GMapTool http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/merging-maps That tool doesn't create any address index though. Can mkgmap do that step? I tried this command line, and it did write a new routable 3.5GB map image from the supplied one, but the nuvi still isn't searching for addresses in it: java -Xmx1650m -jar mkgmap.jar --gmapsupp "--style-file=d:/Garmin maps/mkgmap-r3692/examples/styles/default" --precomp-sea=i:\maps-new_style\sea_20161017.zip --generate-sea --index --bounds=i:\maps-new_style\bounds_20161017.zip --location-autofill=is_in,nearest --x-split-name-index --housenumbers --add-pois-to-areas --remove-ovm-work-files --output-dir=i:\ "D:\Garmin maps\Mex-W-US-Can.img" (I have tried again with a tiny map of two local tiles joined, but my nuvi does not recognize this 17MB gmapsupp.img as a map! Odd that the 3.5GB map mostly works when moved in its place, I think I built them both the same way... since that is a joining experiment with GMapTool and not mkgmap, it's for entertainment only. Am more interested in learning how to add the index) -y

Include "landuse=grass" in default style

Hi, would you please consider adding "landuse=grass" in the default style. Many small irrelevant patches are landuse=grass, but also some really large areas, that can help orientation immensely. I would suggest the same representation as "meadow" Thanks for consideration Jakob

Not seeing 2 particular Points in my output .img, (mkgamp ver 3699)

I am able to see most Points, but noticed some missing Points, so I made a special Style with only 2 Points.(FindAnItem-style) In my Points file I am trying to display only these 2 items: bridge=covered {echo "Found Covered Bridge"} [0x661d resolution 17] aeroway=helipad {echo "HELIPAD"} [0x5904 resolution 17] These items exist in the 12390014.osmpbf bridge=covered is located at N42° 21' 08.1" W83° 26' 14.7" a Helipad exists at N42° 17' 07.8" W83° 43' 49.6" the Standard Output OI get is shown in Find an item standard output.jpg Which shows 15 Helipads found within the osm.pbf file, not none are shown in the output .img file (not showing covered bridges nor helipads.img) I am not able to get mkgmap to detect 'bridge=covered' I am running this command: java -ea -Xmx1024M -jar \MKGMAP\mkgmap-r3699\mkgmap-r3699\mkgmap.jar --gmapsupp --description="MI_itemWIDE_BC" --latin1 --index --x-split-name-index --bounds=\MKGMAP\bounds.zip --location-autofill=bounds,is_in,nearest --housenumbers --overview-mapname=MI-ov --overview-mapnumber=12390000 --remove-ovm-work-files --style-file=\MKGMAP\FindAnItem-style\openmapchest --check-styles --family-id=666 --family-name="Michigan" --product-id=3 --series-name="MI_itemWIDE_BC" --area-name="My_maps" --min-size-polygon --route --drive-on=detect,right --check-roundabouts --check-roundabout-flares --remove-short-arcs --add-pois-to-areas --pois-to-areas-placement="entrance=main;entrance=yes;building=entrance" --generate-sea=extend-sea-sectors,multipolygon,floodblocker,close-gaps=6000 --make-poi-index --process-destination --process-exits --tdbfile --poi-address --verbose 12390014.osm.pbf master_thin.txt pause Can anyone see why these 2 Points are Not being displayed?
