What is --series-name ?

Hi Does anyone have any opinion on what series name means? I've never thought it made sense. After looking at the gmap format, it seems to me that it is associated with the product id. So a better name would be --product-name ..Steve

Size checks in splitter

Hi all, years ago we added a check in splitter r251 to make sure that it doesn't write extremely large tiles. See http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2012q1/013611.html and http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2012q4/015707.html In short: The problem is that the precomp-sea option will add a huge amout of sea polygons to such a tile, another problem is that the bounds option loads a huge amount of data. I've now noticed that this check might not be useful if you use splitter to split a large file into a few smaller tiles, esp. the whole planet with num-tiles=2. I'd like to skip this check when a) --num-tiles is used b) --max-nodes value is large, e.g. higher than 10.000.000 Another option would be to add a new option like --skip-size-check. What do you think? Gerd

Hi all, I try to find a better structure for the sources in splitter and therefore moved classes to new packages. Don't use this version of splitter for the generation of precomp-sea.zip, mkgmap needs an older version. I hope this will not cause trouble when merging back this branch... Spurious points & Basecamp blank tiles

Hi, I have been creating Garmin map from Finnish national topographic database and lately I updated the process to use mkgmap to convert OSM PBF files to Garmin IMG. I have encountered a problem with Garmin PC software showing blank tiles (http://kartat.hylly.org/mkgmap/mkgmap2.png) and digging further i discovered that there are extra points in IMG files on those tiles http://kartat.hylly.org/mkgmap/mkgmap1.png. These points does not exist in the source data (http://kartat.hylly.org/mkgmap/M431_osm.osm.pbf and http://kartat.hylly.org/mkgmap/mkgmap3.png) nor are those Garmin types referenced in any way in style files (https://github.com/pailakka/mtk2garmin/tree/master/mtk2garmin_style) Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong, or any pointers which way to look in mkgmap source is this happens to be some kind of bug in mkgmap? Random compiling failures

I build maps daily for some 60 countries for my web. Since a couple of months or so, almost every day there are some maps that fail to build with an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException. Maps that fail change from one day to the next. I have not been able to reproduce the problem, as failure seems to be random. If I later build any of the maps that failed, even using the same input file, it usually builds fine. Problem doesn't seem to be style related, as it happens (also randomly) with any of the two styles I use for my maps. splitter: issues when splitting planet

Hi all, during the last days I noticed that splitter is about to reach an internal limit when you split planet with a rather small max-nodes value, e.g. max-nodes=800000. The log contains many lines like this: way MAP occupancy: 32.000.000, number of area dictionary entries: 58132 of 65535 If the number of dictionary entries gets to 65535 (Short.MaxValue) splitter will fail. To fix this problem I plan to change splitter to use another data structure which will int values and allows to store much more entries. The drawback is that this will require more memory, maybe much more. My current estimation is +1GB Those who split planet: Please check the splitter log , esp. the last line that start with "way MAP occupancy". If you are close to 65535 consider to use a higher max-nodes value until I have coded the new data structures. Gerd
