Version mkgmap-r4526 was committed by gerd on Sat, 13 Jun 2020 exists.patch by Ticker Berkin with one minor change: add motorroad to used tags in HighwayHooks - set exit:road_ref for highway=rest_area as well as motorway_junction and services. - do the above for motorroad, trunk and primary highways as well as motorways. - for services and rest_area, if option --link-pois-to-ways is set, handle "Ways" in a similar manner to "Nodes". - allow the point/area in above to be slightly off the road. - improve the efficiency of the setting of exit:road_ref for motorway_junction. - Change the typCode of motorway junction from 0x2100 (Exit with Services) to 0x2000 (Exit without Services) and only do if exit:road_ref is set. Also attempt to set exit:to from standard OSM tags exit_to or destination. - Change the typCode of services from 0x210f (see above) to 0x230f (Exit Service Area), do even if generated from polygon, set some facilities and show at a lower resolution. - correct the allowable ranges of the different POI subtypes. http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/websvn/revision.php?repname=mkgmap&rev=4526

Osmium or Splitter/mkgmap issue?

I'm getting a weird behaviour: I merge <5MB pbfs, when using osmium I get a 8MB img file while with osmosis it is less than 4MB! The latter seems fine since the initial pbfs are less than 5MB. I'd like to use osmium in my scripts since it performs better. Am I doing something wrong? Maps are corrupt when using --code-page=65001 [Zumo XT]

On my shining new Garmin Zumo XT I can't seem to be able to build unicode maps, when I start the device I get "Maps are corrupts and connot be used." I'm using the latest and greatest mkgmap r4525, fresh pbf from geofabrik - to reproduce: wget http://download.geofabrik.de/europe/malta-latest.osm.pbf java -jar ./mkgmap.jar --code-page=65001 \ --family-id=10030 --product-id=1 --route --bounds=bounds.zip \ --precomp-sea=sea.zip --gmapsupp ./malta-latest.osm.pbf Anything I can try? --code-page=1252 works as a charm Thanks! Usage of DEM files within zip

Hi I struggled today with the DEM/hgt files in a zip. After downloading some extra and checking/rezipping finally my maps did not work anymore. I do not have the exact error anymore but it was clear: DEM HGT files not found Now it looks like if the ZIP does not have a folder but only the HGT files on the root of the zip then mkgmap does not recognize them If I rezip everything again and put the files within a subfolder first, it is oke. For me its fine, I solved 'my' issue, but if this is true it could better be in the manual or solved in code. Looks like this does not work: world-hgt.zip\N00E006.hgt world-hgt.zip\N00E007.hgt world-hgt.zip\N00E008.hgt And if I do it like this its oke world-hgt.zip\world-hgt\N00E006.hgt world-hgt.zip\world-hgt\N00E007.hgt world-hgt.zip\world-hgt\N00E008.hgt Kind regards, Joris Bo

Documenting the various sorts of file

The current help doesn't explain what sorts of files can be processed. What documentation there is seems to be scattered, and difficult to discover. Having skimmed the source, it looks as if FileKind.java is the place where the various sorts are handled. I am not quite sure where the test-map:all-elements and test-map:test-points fit in. Is there any chance that someone who knows the source properly could enhance the help messsage? Or document it somewhere else. ael

Hi Gerd, I tried out my old Oregon 550 and my ZUMO 396 The Oregon 550 behaves almost identical to the Oregon 750t. The boundary layer slows down the POI search by factor 10. Round about 1 sec without and 9 sec with the boundary layer. If I put all transparent layers on the SD Card it's 50 sec. I assume the biggest impact comes fron my contourlines layer with DEM Data for all of Europe (3,7GB size). The Zumo seems to be faster. The boundary layer is no big problem (maybe 1 sec penalty). But when I put my contourlines layer on the Zumo it slows down extremely. The GARMIN Firmware bug seems to affect several devices, if not all. Ciao, Franco

I create my maps with contours using the following command java -jar ./mkgmap/mkgmap.jar --description="*$family_name - OSM*" --output-dir="$dest"/ \ --family-id=10030 --product-id=1 --family-name="*$family_name - Map*" --route --remove-short-arcs --bounds=bounds.zip \ --precomp-sea=sea.zip --location-autofill=is_in,nearest --draw-priority=20 --gmapsupp --index --housenumbers "$work"/"$suffix"*osm.pbf ./typ/gspeed.typ \ --family-id=10031 --product-id=1 --family-name="*$family_name - Contours*" --draw-priority=10000 --transparent $contours ./typ/gspeedContours.typ In blue the part that refers to contours. Mapids for the two sets are different. On my Garmin Montana I see just one map with the name passed in --description option (*$family_name - OSM*). On an old Garmin Nuvi I see two maps, the real map with streets (named *$family_name - Map*) and the one with contours (named *$family_name - Contours*), which I can enable/disable individually. On the new Garmin Zumo XT I see two maps, both named *$family_name - OSM. *I can't disable just one of the two, they seems to be linked and it is weirs they show up with very same name in the list. Question: is there a way I can merge the two maps so I get the same behaviour anywhere? Thanks! Enrico

Split gmapsupp.img files over 4GB

Could mkgmap automatically split gmapsupp.img over 4GB (or have an option to do so - but besides Oruxsmaps/locus and some other not often used tools - I don't know any others that can use larger gmapsupp.img files duet to FAT32). It would be nice if those gmapsupp.img files were somehow rastered - but even just according to mapid would be fine. -- Felix Hartman - Openmtbmap.org & VeloMap.org

is_in() function for point on line

Hi Does the is_in() function should also work for a point on a line in stead of in a polygon? highway = turning_circle & is_in(highway, track, in_or_on) = true [0x641a resolution 24] It returns false for this situation where the turningcircle is attached to a highway = track. (mkgmap:cache_is_in_POINT_highway_track_in_or_on=false) Would there be another way to know if the point is attached to a highway = track rather then a for example highway = residential?
