Hi! Is it possible that pure address nodes (i.e. not POIs with address information) somehow don't go through the style processing with the "points" file? I have been adding a few debug statements and things are not working as I expected... Regards, Colin

small discovery - polyline priority

Hello! Maybe this is obvious for some people, but that was problem I was fighting for a long time. On my maps residential roads had higher rendering priority than tertiary roads - and road junctions looked really ugly. Marine maps do not have TYP files. So they must have another functionality to control polygon draw order. I never found out how it works. E.g. 0x10105 (bridge polygon) is ALWAYS drawn on top. Some extended types for restricted areas have also very high priority. Until now it was difficult to get predictable results for marine charts. Try and error was the only way to go. File name format for style include

What is the format for an absolute file address for the style file 'include' directive under Windows? The form "C:\Users\Roger\Documents\maps\styles\includes\roger_lines" fails, as does "C:/Users/Roger/Documents/maps/styles/includes/roger_lines". I have no problem with relative addresses - "../includes/roger_lines" works as expected. mkgmap does not compile with Java 8

Hello, I hope this is not a FAQ, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere. mkgmap does not compile with Java 8

Michael, The error message suggests you to compile with the -source 1.7 option. With this option you tell the compiler to treat mkgmap's code with Java 7 specs. You don't need to downgrade your JDK intallation nor wait for mkgmap to upgrade. Version mkgmap-r3314 was committed by steve on Sat, 12 Jul 2014 Rename two argument remove() methods in MultiHashMap and MultiIdentityHashMap for java 8. In java 8 there is a method of the same name but different signature on Map. So these classes don't compile on java 8. Renamed as removeMapping(), which is the same name used by apache collections which faced a similar problem. Note that the resulting map tiles are different when using java 7 and java 8. At least some of this appears to be due to different iteration order in maps, but there may be more serious problems - I don't know.

mkgmap 3313 bug: POI names missing

When creating maps with current (3313) version of mkgmap, POIs do not have proper names on an Oregon 600. Instead, the category of the POI - as used in the style file - is shown (e.g. "Pharmacy" instead of the name of the pharmacy). When using an old version of mkgmap (2815? file date 24 Nov 2013), the names are shown - see screenshots. The file size of the map of Bavaria is 207 MB with the old version, and some 170 MB with the new version... I include my points file. Thanks for your hints, Bernhard

Sub Descriptions in gmapsupps

Hi On my Oregon 600 Garmin maps show a title and a subtitle in the 'configure maps' setup ie Digital Globe (title) Demo JNX (subtitle) So far I've not been able to create 'sub descriptions' using any of the available commands However, interestingly , I recently discovered that using Mapinstall I can create subtitles but its messy. I've done some testing 1) using the following command I have create a gmapsup and installed the same map on Basecamp. --mapname=11223344 --family-id=6088 --country-name=my_country --series-name="map1" --family-name="map2" --overview-mapname="map3" --description="map4" --remove-short-arcs --style-file=styles --style=june2014 --output-dir=C:\a_upl2vb6\temp --transparent --tdbfile --draw-priority=10 --gmapsupp C:\Users\me\Desktop\map.osm 2) On the Oregon the gmapsup (mkgmap.img) only produces: 'map4' as a main title 3) installing the map (mapinstall.img) using mapinstall I get map1 ( as title) map2 ( as subtitle) 4) looking at both imgs I noticed some interesting points: a) MPS block 0x46 seems to contain the subtitle (in both imgs) b) the mapinstall img contains an extra 0x50 block prior to 0x46 I can't as yet tell whether a) this block present in tdb files must also be included in a gmapsupp? b) There is some additional flag that is set? c) or both?
