r2306 and r2307: gmapsupp.img not visible in BaseCamp

Hi All, I just started creating my own Garmin maps using mkgmap [1] and noted that the generated gmapsupp.img files work fine with BaseCamp (Version 3.3.2.0, on Mac OS X) when using: mkgmap-r2179 mkgmap-r2274 mkgmap-r2294 mkgmap-r2298 However, those generated with r2306 and r2307 are simply not visible under "My Garmin Devices". Not that I have a problem (as I am simply using r2298). I just thought it would be worth mentioning. Also warn if they are not all the same. - Working gmapsupp index when there are more than one family in the gmapsupp. Bugs - Prevent the exception thrown when there are no countries in any of the input files. - Fix the sorting of the entries in MDR19 - Correct calculation of gmapsupp size to allow for the SRT file(s). Small changes - The --latin1 option is now exactly the same as --code-page=1252 instead of being *almost* exactly the same ;) - Repeat flag in mdr10 set differently

Hi Are there any comments on the dev-index branch? Summary of the changes: Features - Multiple family id's in the same gmapsupp should now work with --index. - The code-page and sort-order are taken from the input files when creating an index. Also there is a warning if they are not all the same. Bugs - Correct calculation of gmapsupp size to allow for the SRT file(s). - Fix the sorting of the entries in MDR19 - Prevent the exception thrown when there are no countries in any of the input files. Small changes - POI with duplicate names removed from the index, but only in the gmapsupp index, not the regular one. - Repeat flag in mdr10 set differently - however I've never noticed a difference no matter how the repeat flags are set. - The --latin1 option is now exactly the same as --code-page=1252 instead of being *almost* exactly the same ;) ..Steve

latin1 an index creation

Hi, would it be possible to add a hint in help=options, that --latin1 is needed for generating the index? Or change the code, that all strings for index-creation were automatically converted to latin1 and strings shown in the map are converted with --code-page. Don't know if this is possible. Henning

Okay I'm uploading the gmapsupp.img now. However the difference isn't that small - at least in data size. For my testcase, Austria, it is 239.4MB (mkgmap) vs 239.6MB (Mapsource). http://openmtbmap.org/gmapsupp_mapsource.img vs http://openmtbmap.org/GMAPSUPP_diff_sort.IMG mkgmap does throw a warning now: different sort order, but of course Mapsource can handle it... ------------------- Oh and there is a second change - I forgot mentioning in the earlier mails. the address branch doesn't add .tmp to broken mdr and mdx files, I hope this is changed back before merging and only for testing, as the .tmp ending is really practical and needed for automatic checking if the mkmgap output went through without major errors. Overview map

Hi I have started to implement adding features into the overview map. You can find ready built jar files on the download page and in the 'overview' branch in subversion. It creates the overview map from the .img (as before) and so it is very quick to try out even on a set of tiles covering a whole country. There is no configuration yet, it just takes everything (lines and polygons) that is in the least detailed layer of the detailed maps and adds it into the overview. You will immediately notice a big problem in that the overview map shows up even when the detailed maps are being displayed, so you get ugly jagged lines across the top of the map. I remember this happening the last time we has an overview map and I wonder if anyone can remember if there was a solution then? I'm going to start by trying the (so-called) POI flags, as one of those has been noted to be set differently on detail and base maps before. ..Steve
