Small problem with ivy build and svn-version

Hi, I have two different directory structures on my system, g:\mkgmap_all contains the complete source tree from http://svn.parabola.me.uk/mkgmap with trunk and branches, g:\mkgmap contains only the performance branch (http://svn.parabola.me.uk/mkgmap/branches/performance) When I run ant clean dist in g:\mkgmap_all\branches\performance the build finishes without any error messages. The same command executed in g:\mkgmap produces an error message like this: svn-version: [exec] Execute failed: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "svnversion": CreateProcess error=2, Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden As a result, the generated file build\classes\version.properties looks different. attached are the logs and the produced version.properties files. I am using tortoiseSvn on a Windows XP. Merging back the performance branch

Hi Gerd, in your opinion what is the current status of the performance branch? There seem to be no more fundamental changes so I would like to focus on merging it back to the trunk. Additional improvements can then be applied to the trunk. The performance improvements are great. Before merging back I would like to invite people (and give them the chance) to test it carefully. For this I will upload the complete world bounds so that anyone can participate. From my point of view the following things must be done before merging back: * Remove several System.out printouts. Please use the mkgmap internal logging system. * One note to the logging system: Instead of using log.info("There were "+n+" results") better use log.info("There were", n, "results") This avoids string creation in case the log message is not logged. * Please check the code with FindBugs or something similar * Is the source code well documented? * Is the licence header added to all classes? * The BoundaryPreparer uses options like "preparer-out-dir". Are these options documented? The name should be more specific (e.g. bounds-out-dir). WanMil

gpx track files do not work on routable maps

Hi, I have an issue with OSM maps converted using --route and GPX track files, on an Edge 705. When reloading a "Saved Ride" (a GPX track file) on the GPS, the Begin and End points are superimposed (at the location of the End point on the map). I tried with many GPX files, some created on GPsies, some on Bikehike, using various routes (some with cycle ways, some others with only main roads) with the same result. This does not occur with the stock Garmin City Navigator NT maps, or with OSM maps compiled without the --route option (I guess this is normal, it does not do a proper routing in that case). The strange thing is that the routing "on the fly" (using "Where to?" of the GPS unit) works well and uses cycleways as legitimate routes. But using a saved GPX track file fails. This happens with maps compiled using "java -jar mkgmap-r2226/mkgmap.jar --route --gmapsupp -c template.args", no other options are used. Is it a problem with the routing building? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Eric

extended polygon with zero subfile not rendered

Hi all After some testing and checking the RGN it seems that landuse=village_green [0x*135* resolution 18] does not get parsed whereas landuse=village_green [0x*13501* resolution 18] ie 135 with any subfile 01 - 1f or landuse=village_green [0x*134 * resolution 18] does! I wonder how many extended polygons with subfile=0 are similarly ignored and why? use locator to change highway tags within polygons?

Hi list, Is it possible to retag all unclassified roads within a polygon landuse=residential into highway=residential with the locator? I know it is possible with the locator to retag lines within an administrative district, for example highway=trunk are handled as motorways within certain countries: highway=trunk & mkgmap:country ~ '(NLD|BEL|LUX|FRA|DEU|AUT|CHE|DNK|HUN|ROU)' { set highway=motorway } So I would guess this will work with landuse=residential by adding admin_level=11 (or 12?) by preprocessing the country extract or in the polygons file (although I doubt that the second option is working): polygons: landuse = residential {add boundary=administrative; add admin_level=11} lines: highway=unclassified & mkgmap:admin_level=11 { set highway=residential } (or alternatively, add a road_speed or road_class penalty?) Do I need to prepare a custom bounds file and will this work? If this works, I can improve the routing by avoiding residential or industrial/commercial areas, or even prefer nature areas like forests, parks, natural districts etc.

Exception generated in MapSplitter.java

Hello all, I get an exception raised in MapSplitter.java, StringIndexOutOfBounds exception thrown from a logging block on line 123. Presumably this is happening because I have a level value that is too high for the padding substring call, but I don't know why the level value would be so high, I'm converting the south-america.osm.pbf from Geofabrik. Would splitting the file with fewer nodes solve this? I'm already down from 1000000 to 500000 anyway due to the high detail level. Cheers

Resolution Ranges

Hi, the wiki gives following example for Resolution Ranges (thickness of lines depending on zoom): highway=residential [0x06 resolution 22-16 continue] highway=residential [0x07 resolution 24-23] Q: If the road should be routable, have both types to be routable or is it sufficient that the second one (0x07) is routable? Should 'continue with_actions' be used in this example? Chris

Problems searching for California addresses

I've been using mkgmap to compile a California map for my Garmin for a while now, and was excited to see that addressing was being supported, but I'm having troubles getting this new feature to work as I expect. System Information: OS: 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10 GPS: Garmin Montana 650 software version 3.80 These are the steps I have taken: 1) Download california.osm.bz2 from cloudmade.com last updated 13 December 2011 http://downloads.cloudmade.com/americas/northern_america/united_states/cali… 2) Use osmconvert version 0.5Z to convert to pbf bzcat california.osm.bz2 | ./osmconvert32 - -o=california.pbf 3) Use osmconvert version 0.5Z to convert to o5m ./osmconvert32 california.pbf -o=california.o5m 4) Use splitter version r200 to create tiled osm.pbf files java -Xmx2000m -jar splitter.jar --mapid=63240001 california.pbf 5) Use osmfilter version 1.2M to create california-boundaries.osm ./osmfilter32 california.o5m --keep-nodes= --keep-ways-relations="boundary=administrative =postal_code postal_code=" > california-boundaries.osm 6) Use mkgmap version r2227 to create bounds directory java -Xmx2500M -jar mkgmap.jar --createboundsfile=california-boundaries.osm I get the following printouts, but I don't believe them to be critical: SEVERE (BoundarySaver): Calculate bbox to (32.18650817871094,-124.45449829101562) to (41.84246063232422,-114.79854583740234) SEVERE (BoundarySaver): Calculate bbox to (32.18650817871094,-124.45449829101562) to (41.84246063232422,-114.79854583740234) 7) Use mkgmap version r2227 to create gmapsupp.img file from the tiles and bounds directory java -Xmx2500m -jar mkgmap.jar --route --remove-short-arcs --add-pois-to-areas --index --gmapsupp *.osm.pbf This creates a valid Garmin map image that loads and displays map information on the device as expected, however I notice the following when trying to search for addresses on the Garmin Montana: 1) The only Country I can select is "Country", not USA or United States of America 2) City names hit and miss. "San Francisco" shows up as "San Francisco, ABC" but "Sacramento" isn't found. 3) Some addresses have incorrect city information, for example address that should be in "Fremont, Alameda County" are showing up under "Livermore, ABC". 4) Only some County names are showing up. "Ontario, Riverside Country" others like "San Francisco" show up as ABC. Any ideas on where these problems are occurring? I can search on openstreetmap.org and it appears to have the correct information as far as city, county and country, but I beyond that I haven't figured out how to verify when and where the data is correct or not. Street name search in gmapsupp.img generated via --index option

Hi - to test if --index now works out of the box, I just used mkgmap r2226 to generate a gmapsupp.img for my Nuvi SD card (I'm a linux user, no mapsource). It works! However street name search string need to start exactly with the street name prefix entered in OSM, example: for a street (via in italian) named "Via John Fitzgerald Kennedy" - known by everyone as Kennedy Street (i.e without the first name) - I've to tape exactly "Via John..." while using Garmin maps I can just enter "Kennedy" to get all the streets containing the word "Kennedy" Is it possible to search street names as I'm doing with POIs, i.e. to get the list of items %matching% the keyword I enter? I would appreciate any hint, Thanks gspeed
