Is it possible to change the license info which is embedded in the IMG header? Now it reads "OSM Street map http://www.openstreetmap.org/ Map data licenced under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/", but this is not correct when making maps from other data sources. For example contour line layers made of SRTM data do not contain any OSM data.

failure of splitter on parcel data

I have a file that is the result of translated a shapefile of parcel boundaries obtained from MassGIS using a modified polyshp2osm. The file is in .osm format and has several thousand closed ways, each with a bunch of tags, boundary=parcel and some metadata from the shapefile. Long ago I used to just mix this in to a cloudmade massachusetts extract, split, and then compile with mkgmap. My mkgmap style file has an extra rule to map boundary=parcel to a minor depth contour, so I get think blue lines for the parcel boundaries. At some point, splitter started having trouble with this file. I tried again, with just "stow-lots.osm", and got the following, with splitter just sitting there consuming CPU. I can provide the file to anyone who wants to debug this, but I'm guessing the backtrace might be enough to spot the issue. gmapsupp visible in Basecamp

Just found out that you can make a gmapsupp.img on micro SD card or in your GPS unit visible in Basecamp. This becomes the common procedure by map sellers, they only deliver a gmapsupp on microSD card so you don't have to install the map on the pc anymore. By default the Ms (Mapsource) flag is set to 1 but you can set it to 0 with Gmaptool: Reading file G:/garmin/gmapsupp.img. File: G:/garmin/gmapsupp.img, length 46495744 Header: 21.10.2011 18:36:39, DSKIMG, XOR 00, V 0.00, Ms 1 Set version in header - advanced option, GMapTool writes map version into img file header. First two input fields are for map version, field Ms is for Mapsource flag. Value 0 for flag makes img in GPS visible to BaseCamp. I have tried it with my Openfietsmap and it worked. However I discovered that my map is transparent. Underneath it appeared the Basecamp basemap, a very rough map with highways that used my custom typ file (with the wrong lines of course). Any ideas how to make this basemap invisible? I think it has something to do with not using the 0x4b background; I dont use it because this causes ghost shading in Mapsource (zooming in produces a lot of noise, like this example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8541959/mapsource%20lines.jpg) If I edit my map with gpsmapedit, I can see this background polygon 4b is still there, but I simply dont have defined it in the typ file because of those unwanted effects in Mapsource.

exclude words from city / state

Using the locator branch, I noticed that many cities in Austria are not findable anymore. The problem is that there are words like "Gemeinde Mödling" or "Bezirk Mödling" or "county XYZ". There should be a list where one can enter words that get deleted. That is because for the boundary it is the correct name, but not for searching a street. Also there are problems in Austria in Vienna. Vienna is a state and a city, and ideally it should be possible to enter either the district or the city into the city field, in order to find a street. Currently it is not possible to properly separate cities outside Vienna from districts inside Vienna, as they have the same admin_level. But for the ise tags, there is a correct specification telling you that districts are not cities (from the standpoint of the admin_level, it is correct however to classify them the same as small cities outside of Vienna). So in effect if one does not enter specific rules for Vienna, address search can never work as expected. Admin_level was never intended to be used for address searching, hence taking it is flawed and will not provide correct results. Ise is intended for address searching, but mkgmap does not use it. In general after using the locator branch, I more and more think, that the whole matching is completly the wrong way of doing. Much better to support real addresses as entered in OSM, and not do so much guessing. Especially support housenumbers, as at least in Germany and Austria housenumbers including full ise tags are becoming the norm, and not the exception. Only footways, pathes, or tracks should be matched, as they usually have no real address - but then it's rare that one searches for a specific path/track/footway, only real use would therefore be

How to debug: IE instead of IRL

Hi, when I build a map for Ireland, the abrevision is "IE" and not the expected "IRL". The LocatorConfig.xml looks Ok to me. Tags hiding roads?

Hi there everybody! I'm new to this list. Since I bought an eTrex Legend HCx, I've been making my own contributions to Open Street Map and using the free mapping from the http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ web site for car navigation etc. This may or may not be a -dev question but I read that because this is the only mkgmap list, anything goes. I have a problem with a stretch of road which is missing from my Garmin and causing crazy instructions i.e. turn around and find another way. Please take a look at Open Street Map here:- http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.44952&lon=-2.38914&zoom=16&layers=M where the first section of the road called Freezinghill Lane which heads south-westwards from the A420 is missing from the map on my Garmin. I believe this problem is caused by somebody adding a tag to the road to make it serve as a parish boundary as well as a road. Or is it confusing mkgmap with an unexpected input combination? Part of the A46 which is nearby, and joins the A420 to the M4 motorway was also missing. I caused annoyance to at least one other Open Street Map user by deleting some of these tags. The A46 now appears to be intact on the map on my Garmin. I just noticed that the Garmin mapping site has been updated again in the last couple of days, but I have to use my device to navigate to a customer in an hour or so, so I'm not going to update it at this time. Structure of OSM data

Hello list, without intent, my patch_v7 for splitter added a restriction about the structure of OSM files (pbf or xml). I am not sure if this can cause problems: Is it possible that a valid OSM data file contains information for a given node-id or way-id "spread" over different places? Maybe with changesets? Splitter in trunk (r191) is able to handle this, but patched version r192 is probably not. For example: Can a file contain the definition of a way and its referred nodes, and later add some more nodes to this way? If yes: Would the SplitProcessor method "see" that this happened or would the parser combine the information first? I can test it myself, I just need a link to such data if it exists. Address search in czech republic

Hi, I tested address search in mapsource today with my self generated maps for Garmin. For "DACH" it works fine, but for czech_republic, nearly no address was found.
