Version 1670 was commited by steve on 2010-08-29 22:15:57 +0100 (Sun, 29 Aug 2010) the patch removes tags from ways not until all multipolygons are processed. This fixes some problems if one way is a member of multiple multipolygons and the multipolygons take their tags from their ways. This is a result of the thread http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2010q3/008730.html. The second patch fixes some problem of the first patch including an additional algorithm to automatically close ways having both endpoints outside the bounding box. -WanMil

[PATCH v1] GMP file support for the Displayer

The patch makes it possible to use all files within GMP subfiles. This is necessary to analyze Garmin NT maps. Writing of GMP files is not yet supported. I have used the description on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/GMP_Subfile_Format. Some notes: * I have changed the Displayer. It does no longer wait until the end to write out its information. This is necessary because some outputs are very large (some hundreds of megabytes). * All analyzes can now be made directly from the .img files. The subfiles need not be extracted before starting with the different analyze programs (NodDisplay, TreDisplay etc.). * Maybe some code is broken to analyze non NT maps. Please let me know. * Added analyze output for MDR 32/33. The format seems to be well known but I find it useful to have the possibility to analyze all parts of the .img file. I would be happy to get some feedback. Hopefully this will revitalize discussions to find out some unkown parts of the Garmin file format. WanMil

Is there an easy way to extract the sub-files of a Gramin img file, either by using some of the mkgmap code or another piece of software? I am interested in delving deeper into the file format and playing around with the unknown areas. Albert

Address search

Hi, Two remarks on address search with a Vista Hcx : * even if I don't know the address number, I have to write a number in order to find the street * I use the splitter to generate a map for France. It splits the file in something like 60 pieces. I can only search an address in the piece of map I am currently in. A trick to go around that : go to the "Satellite" page of the GPS, turn satellite search off, then "new location" and choose a location near the address you want to search, so that the GPS searches in the same piece of map than the address. Style : lower case

Hello, The option lowercase has a side effect on lines name. To draw oriented text along lines features, Garmin use a vectorial uppercase font. With the lower-case option, some GPS like Etrex cannot display these names or you can see almost for example "G**** R****" horizontally instead of "Green River" along the corresponding river. It would be great if the lower-case option could be managed with a third state : partial-lower-case whic preserve upper case for lines and allow lower case for points and polygons. A fast patch could be something like that in polylines class (probably in the 2 write methods) : memoLabelUpperCaseState = label.upperCase; label.upperCase = true; do everything needed for writing polyline ; label.upperCase = memoLabelUpperCaseState; All the best, David

Hello, Is there a place where we can gather and share specific TYP and style files ? For example, TYP and style file for biking, for hiking etc.... We could show a screenshot on the wiki of what a combination of a TYP and style files can give. I made such a set for my own use, and could share it if such a repo exist. Francois --

Venezia (Venice) and mkgmap

Hi, at http://www.gomatteo.net/venice.jpg you can see the result of processing Venezia (Venice) with mkgmap (the screenshot is taken from QLandkarteGT, but the result is the same on a garmin gpsmap60c). I first splitted the big osm file with the splitter, then invoked mkgmap with these parameters: --- BEGIN --- add-pois-to-areas latin1 reduce-point-density=7 remove-short-arcs=2 merge-lines style-file=/home/matteo/opt/gis/styles/teo_style/ overview-mapname=teo series-name=teo tdbfile route location-autofill=2 --- END --- The splitter and mkgmap are at the last SVN version. Where is the fault? My parameters, the osm data or mkgmap? Wrong polygons position

Hello, I'm trying to convert .mp files to .img garmin files and I have strange problem, polygons are moved! On my map i have the same parameters for polylines and polygons (polylines should be a border of polygons but they don't). This is my input .mp file displayed: http://garmin.tu.org.pl/PrzemeksAirMap/d.png And this is compiled file: http://garmin.tu.org.pl/PrzemeksAirMap/c.png Btw. how to force mkgmap to don't split polygons to smaller?
