There's some weird behaviour that never happened with City Navigator but sometimes occurs with mkgmap generated maps. While calculating the route the progress counter goes up to 100% as normal but stays there indefinitely (i.e. more than five minutes). Since one can not abort route calculation on the c510 via some stop button, I have to disable the OSM map, turn the unit off, press the reset button (sic!) and turn it back on. The reason is not obvious. Today, I wanted to go to an address that I have previously entered in City Navigator. Due to mapping errors the position was just beside the street in OSM and route calculation did not finish in the manner explained above. I then picked from the map the adjacent position on the street and everything went fine!?! -Wolfgang PS: The OSM maps are the recent ones from Lambertus.

[PATCH v1] - Sub-optimal fix to limit excessive inter-node arc length

Folks, The attached patch tries to limit the inter-node arc length to less than 14 bits so that it doesn't get truncated in RouteArc. This appears to fix the problems that have been reported by myself and others. Specifically, if you have a road that has large distances between the nodes, this patch should help if you are having problems routing. The patch is a hack because the real fix would be to make encodeLength() cope with lengths that require more than 14 bits but I don't really have time to look into that. It may be trivial, perhaps the original author could look at it again? Also, there will be a performance penalty in using this patch because it calculates the arc lengths again which is quite an expensive operation (lots of sums). So, if you are seeing routing issues, it may be worth applying this patch until the arc length encoding is fixed. I have tried a few maps with the patch and some do report arc length fixes. The patch also adds a couple of assertions to catch a special case in the polyline encoding which we don't currently explicitly handle. Cheers, Mark

Newbie question about style

Hi, i'm so newbie about mkgmap, i used it only for convert .osm to .img , butt now i would change the style of the .img, i read the documentation but i have 2 questions: - The resolution in .csv file and the point/lines/polygon file bust be equal? - Where can i see the symbols of the garmin code? how can i know what is this 0x2d02 (i think this is a pub)? thank's regard Luca PS Sorry for my bed english

buildings rendered on garmin

I drove to work with OSM data via mkgmap in my GPS V, and noticed that it seemed very sluggish. When I got to Cambridge I could see the outlines of all the buildings, including houses! These are simple closed ways with building=yes. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=42.3916&lon=-71.14961&zoom=15&layers=B000… I wonder if the GPS V can't really handle that many area features. It seems best to omit areas with building=yes, or at least building=yes w/o name=something.

[PATCH] Add atm operator

I hope attached patch will help people save some money knowing the operator of atm's and avoiding commissions charged by banks other than their credit cards operators ;-) . BTW, in Spain there's an operator called 4B. How can I avoid it to be shown as 4b in my nuvi? Cheers Carlos

GPS V?

I'm new to trying to deal with maps for garmin. I have been been adding/fixing OSM data in my town and am trying to get OSM data onto my Garmin GPS V. This is a serial device that was one of the very earliest ones to support mapping. I went to http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php and asked for the single map tile that covers my area (Stow, MA, US 01775). I unzipped to get -rw-r--r-- 1 gdt users 158720 Apr 10 11:09 gmapsupp.img which seems pretty small. If I run strings I can see POIs, but I wonder if there are roads. I used $ sendmap17Lstatic /dev/gps -u gmapsupp.img to upload, and the GPS receiver shows that it has the map, and I can see POIs, but I see no roads, even when I'm sure they have been in OSM a long time. Also, when I had asked for multiple tiles, I got a 2MB .img, but my GPS V seems to think it only has data in a small subpart of that. I am running the linux binary of sendmap17Lstatic, but doing so on NetBSD (which has linux emulation). It seems to run fine, but I thought I should mention this. So: Do people think mkgmap maps work on a GPS V? Are the na1400.info maps ok (generated today)? I am on the verge of buying a Vista HCx. Will that work 100% ok with mkgmap? It seems so, but I thought I'd ask. Any other hints?

access=agricultural

I've noted that at least here in germany a lot of tracks are tagged with access=agricultural. As probably most of the users are not agrarians, I propose to include the following lines in the style/line file: (Or maybe more efficient, change the sourcecode to make 'agricultural' a synonym with 'no' and 'false') highway=* & access=agricultural {delete access; add access = no;} highway=* & motorcar=agricultural {delete motorcar; add motorcar = no;} highway=* & motorcycle=agricultural {delete motorcycle; add motorcycle = no;}

consecutive identical points null

Hi, I get a lot of warnings: WARNUNG (MapLine): consecutive identical points null I've tracked them down and seen, that they are not caused by the osm data, but by rounding of the coordinates. I.e. while importing the nodes they get converted to an internal unit in integer format. If in the data there are two nodes near together, they get rounded to the same integer value. Then the warning gets printed out, but in the data *ARE* two different nodes. Any idea, what to do?

cascading multipolygon relations

In the wiki it is suggested to cascade two multipolygon relations in a case when we've got area #1 inside area #2 inside area #3: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Relation:multipolygon#Advanced_mult… Looks like mkgmap can't handle this. Should I convert such cases into some other form of relation, or should I just wait for mkgmap to support this?
