Misc documentation fixes

Hi Gerd Here are some documentation fixes & improvements + a change to build.xml to use 4 chars for the unknown version number so that offsets match the typical 4 digit svn version number. This minimises noise when comparing the display of internal structures. I can't tell if I've got the layout in typ-compiler.txt correct until it appears on http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/doc/typ-compiler If it looks bad I'll do another patch. Ticker

Hi Ticker, I like the idea to fix the svn version :) Should work for quite a while... Not sure why you want to add MapSource again to the documentation? It was removed after this discussion: http://gis.19327.n8.nabble.com/License-File-mapid-000-license-txt-tp5963502p... Hi Gerd I think mentioning MapSource in the documentation is useful. I had not used it before and found it trivial to install compared with the difficulties there are in installing Basecamp on a Windows 7 machine. Once installed it was simpler and faster than Basecamp and had capabilities close to my eTrex HCx which seem to have been removed from Basecamp and newer Garmin devices. I was also pleasantly surprised that it found my --gmapi maps from the same location as Basecamp uses. I also note that the documentation mentions QLandkarte. This has been discontinued and QMapShack is recommended instead; but from this information I wouldn't remove QLandKarte from the documentation and wouldn't add QMapShack unless it is known to work with mkgmap maps. Hi, Mkgmap maps work with QMapShack. Not for routing, searching a POI or an address using a mkgmap map (QLandKarte was not able to do that). But as a map layer it's pretty fun. You can combine it with other layers as hillshape, contour lines or maps ! Steph Le 16/06/2020 à 12:48, Ticker Berkin a écrit :

I suggest that the command arguments page refers to just current or most recent products and that a new web page be used to give information on the range of other products that people like to use, why they might be used in preference to others and where they can be obtained. I have just downloaded QMapShack and it loads my GB map, so I suggest replacing QLandkarte with QMapShack in the command arguments page. Ticker - can you explain what functionality is not available in BaseCamp but is available in MapSource? I haven't found anything, although as I started from BaseCamp I may well have missed something. Hi Mike & Gerd I don't feel that strongly enough about this issue to say more. I've changed options[.txt] to remove mention of MapSource and to generalise the wording slightly in these areas. Updated patch attached. The features I've noticed missing in Basecamp are: - Various routing transport modes that mkgmap supports, eg bus, delivery, emergency, taxi. truck/hgv support is ambiguous. - The display of the type and subtype of a POI. - The full list of subtypes of the searchable types in the find functionality. - Exit facilities Ticker On Fri, 2020-06-19 at 09:02 +0100, Mike Baggaley wrote:

Hi Gerd I didn't get the layout of one of my typ-compiler changes correct for when it appears here: http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/doc/typ-compiler so I've had another go - I'm still guessing at how the layout language works. Also fixed another couple of trivial noticed when comparing resultant page with: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mkgmap/help/typ_compile Minor patch attached. Ticker

The largest two problems are that I have never been able find a means to select a small number of tiles to download into one of my small memory sized devices and the user interface is miserable for any purpose other than an entire mapset and loading it into a device (which I do by USB or memory downloads and neither BaseCamp or MapSource when I want to install and entire mapset).
