Hi On this day, 6 years ago, revision 1 was committed to svn. $ svn log -r1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ r1 | steve | 2006-11-26 20:46:08 +0000 (Sun, 26 Nov 2006) | 1 line Created mkosmgmap project ------------------------------------------------------------------------ As you can see it originally had a slightly different, but equally hard to pronounce, name. It took less than a month to get the first working map, primitive as it was, and it has grown massively from there. I never have imagined at the time that it would still be getting bigger and better all this time later. I'd like to thank everyone on this list who uses mkgmap and especially to those that have helped to develop it in the past and those that are doing so now. To celebrate I thought that I would break everything ;) I've updated the www.mkgmap.org.uk website to make it easier to add content, documentation, short news items about new features etc. in the future. You can now also sign up and get svn access to your own branch on any of the projects. If you already have svn access that you've used in the last couple of years, then you already have an account with the same login details as your svn account. There may be problems with things missing from the web site, subversion commit permissions, commit emails to the mailing lists etc. I'll probably notice from the error logs, but if you notice something wrong persisting, then let me know. Best wishes to all. ..Steve

Congratulations and Happy Birthday! The changes over the time I have been watching the List and running mkgmap are impressive, and that's only a couple of years! As a minor gripe, the documentation does not always seem to quite keep up with the program. I keep discovering new style file elements in other people's styles or in messages in the List, which I can't find documentation for either as part of the download or on the wiki. Examples are {echo "xxxx"}, {xxx|conv:ft=>m}, and the recent 'way length()' function. I am sure there are others which I haven't found yet which could prove useful. But despite this, once again, well done all concerned! Roger On 26/11/2012 20:46, Steve Ratcliffe wrote:

Congratulations and many thanks to - Steve - WanMil - GerdP - Marko for writing and maintaining splitter and mkgmap for a very long time. Six years for an open source project is like 50 years Rolling Stones on stage. My wishlist for the future: @Garmin: Please open your map format - this is nothing more than a life insurance for your devices. @mkgmap project: Please install a Donation button and/or publish a bank account for money transfer. @Community: Let us write an up-to-date documentation for splitter and mkgmap. @protagonists: Please keep on maintaining the project. Regards Klaus PS: Is there a protagonist under the hood I haven't mentioned? If yes - sorry for this. -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/mkgmap-birthday-tp5737738p5737787.html Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

well also thanks to former developers like Mark Burton, who contributed a lot until April 2010... - and helped a lot to make mkgmap the better solution compared to cgpsmapper in 2009 (2009 also being the year with the most commits so far). E.g. he implemented most of the autorouting code! On 27.11.2012 08:55, toc-rox wrote:

Thank you Steve, Thank you developer! Thank you for six years of coding such a great tool. May be the seventh year will be the year of house number-coding :-) Also mkgmap could get a little bit more user-friendly. There are so many parameter in --help=options and a beginner doesn't really know, which are useful, which causes some problems and which are absolutely necessary. Maybe this should be reduced to some simple options eg. --routing (does everything which is useful for routing), --address-index (does everything which is useful for creating an index), --poi (includes --add-poi-to ....), and so on. Also useful tweaks of data should be default. Maybe you could talk about this at meeting in Essen. Have a great time, Henning

Well done! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Ratcliffe" <steve@parabola.me.uk> To: "mkgmap development" <mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk> Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2012 3:46 AM Subject: [mkgmap-dev] mkgmap birthday

Congratulations Steve and anyone on the list who contributed to this great project! Mkgmap has really become a remarkable application. On 26/11/2012 21:46, Steve Ratcliffe wrote:
