Custom POI Icons & resolution

Hi, I thought I would make myself a traffic light icon using the TYP file. The icons appear where you expect but they are visible at higher zoom levels than the built in icons for pois that have the same resolution. I tried a few different type codes without noticing any obvious difference. So what's going on? Are custom pois treated differently with regard to zoom levels? Cheers, Mark

Based on my experience it is not recommended, to mix custom icons and build in icons. In my map layers I use custom icons only and limit them to the following number sets: 0x4000-0x401f, 0x4100-0x411f, 0x5000-0x501f, 0x6000-0x601f, 0x6100-0x611f This list is not necessarily complete, but if you combine custom icons with arbitrary POIs in the same map, the visibility of the icons might not work as expected or other strange things might happen. Hi, Mark

AFIAK i would say no. For me it seems more like that the pois in general will be treaten different, e.g. settelements will be shown longer by zooming out than other pois though the endlevel is the same. Right now i had an quick view on my 60csx where i can see this behaviour. A customized 0x2b03, a standard restaurant 0x2a05 and 0xc00 for settlement Alle three having same EndLevel. By zooming out 0x2a05, 0x2b03 disapear at the same moment but 0xc00 stills there. cheers Gert

What I can see on my etrex is that the custom icon will disappear at the level you expect (given the resolution value it has) but some of the built in poi icons disappear sooner. Cheers, Mark

One thing we have to keep in mind is that also the gps settings (max. zoom of map points and detail) affects this. E.G. if you set a fix max.zoom the behaviour differs from if you set it it to "auto". But then some type seems to be visible always like the standard types for citys. cheers Gert

Umm, can't remember exactly what I tried but I think it was 0x1b16 (lighted navaid, multicoloured) and I am now using 0x011500 (custom point 1) - I did try some others as well.

OK. Cheers, Mark
