Commit: r1519: Transliteration merge.

Version 1519 was commited by steve on 2010-01-27 14:32:25 +0000 (Wed, 27 Jan 2010) Transliteration merge. Now transliteration should work even when --latin1 is given. The tables were completed by running a script calling Text::Unidecode. The transliteration continues to be language and context insensitive so it is going to work better for some languages than others. Transliteration merge.
Now transliteration should work even when --latin1 is given.
The tables were completed by running a script calling Text::Unidecode. The transliteration continues to be language and context insensitive so it is going to work better for some languages than others.

I still have big problems with the search index when using --latin. a) With --latin I cannot find any city starting with the following letters on "find city": V,W,X,Y,Z Those cities do show up when searching with "find address" - but then mostly no address will be found... b) Also still impossible to find any address with german Umlaut inside the name on find address (same is true for French Accents and so on...). I think for the indexes no non ASCI letters are allowed, or better there has to be an equivalent version that is strict ASCI. In Garmin MPC maps when entering for example Mödling, it will get converted to Modling as you type. So same result for Modling/Mödling. Once the address is found, it is shown as Mödling however (so only for the index where one enters letters they have to be converted to offer a strict ASCI version). Until a proper solution is found, maybe indexes should allways be written as --asci, and latin1 or other codepages only used for map display.

Ah, that is interesting. It gives me an idea as section 15 is only used for autocompletion when you are typing as far as I can tell. But don't you find that you can *sometimes* find names with accents? ..Steve

I am too having problems with --latin1, but different ones: The street name labels that run along the streets (or as tangents to the lines) and the place names have the initial capital letters but the following characters are displayed as dots (.). This feels like a crossword puzzle. :-( The tooltips are okay. I suspect that the reason for this is that the names are no longer converted to upper case in the gmapsupp.img file. I am using Garmin Edge 705, which I suppose is an "old" model. Can I have my precious upper-case letters back, please? The lower-case letters used to be enabled by a separate option, as far as I remember. Best regards, Marko
