Great, seems to be working well for me. I hope you can implement this also for normal POI - currently in Mapsource under "Feature" the "place category" is still grayed out. Then the only in my eye really useful features of cgpsmapper Personal that we are missing would be: - non squared overview map (this would be really helpfull if you have to "country" maps based on geofabrik data, without having one overlaying the other with the blank overview map) - avoid unpaved roads I would not include real address search yet, because housenumbers are not yet used widespread in OSM. Additionaly It would be great, if the "road-name-pois" option could be dropped, and search for streets enabled via the index (as the Garmin search for address function, depends on housenumbers, maybe housenumber 0 could be defaulted to - as I don't think housenumber 0 exists anywhere). This way when searching for "nearest places" the streets would not clutter other more important POIs (without selecting a category).

Felix,

Just don't use it. Seriously, it was only intended to be a quick and dirty way of being able to search for streets. When the global search stuff matures it will almost certainly be redundant. But unless there's a really good reason to remove the RNP code, it's probably worth keeping even if it's not used (much). Mark

Ups, sorry I was not clear. I meant that we should include into the global address index also streets without "osm addresses". So that any street present in the map, can be searched for by the "address search" and not only proper addresses with housenumbers (because we don't have many of them yet). This would have the added advantage of being able to search for hiking ways of which you know the name (but which certainly have no houses, so no address). So I would like to have the functionality of "road-name-pois" inside the address search (with housenumber=0, because the Vista HCx will only let you enter a streetname in the search, after having typed in a housenumber; I do believe that other GPS are similar in that regard). Whether the "road-name-pois" is then dropped or not, does not matter to me.

OK, understood. Sure, you want the road name without the city name suffixed as you get with the RNPs.

Don't know how adding housenumber=0 to a road address will change things. Surely, the hcx will still be asking for a number? As you probably know, you don't even have to enter a number, just OK.
Whether the "road-name-pois" is then dropped or not, does not matter to me.
Indeed, the RNP code can slumber. Mark

Ups, yeah I forgot about that. Though we would have to check whether addresses consisting of street only, without housenumber (be it because there is no housenumber for that address, exists sometimes on the countryside, or be it because of the above RNP replacement) are listed. When I click ok instead of entering a housenumber, housenumber=1 is found (so what happens if no housenumber exists?).

In some small hamlets in rural areas in Germany we have the opposite: Housenumbers but no street names. A complete address can be: Paul Mustermann Smallhamlet 45 12345 Biggertown

So I would like to have the functionality of "road-name-pois" inside the address search (with housenumber=0, because the Vista HCx will only let you enter a streetname in the search, after having typed in a housenumber; I do believe that other GPS are similar in that regard).
On my Vista HCx, if I enter a blank housenumber (just enter the number selection menu and press OK), I can find some streets with a map generated with the current mkgmap. It is not perfect as sometimes the city is incorrect but it helps. Also some streets are not found like Woodward Avenue, which is also M-1 so it could be that the road number prevents the street name to be found. Thanks, N.
