Is it possible to show addresses on Mapsource etc? I've tried adding addr=housenumber [ 0 x etc ] addr=* [ etc ] address=* [ etc ] to the points file. However, the img file created using mkgmap does not include the typ number I had reserved. ie looking at the POI Types in the TRE all my other types are listed so I know the addr: doesn't seem to work, or does it? -- Er, not sure what you're trying to do here. If an OSM object contains address information and you use an appropriate Garmin type code*, then mkgmap will complete the address fields of the Garmin object using the OSM addr: tags and the phone=x tag too, if available. These are visible in both mapsource and on your GPS.
* Not all Garmin type codes can accept address information. As a rule of thumb, assume that the only type codes that can are in the range: 0x2a00 to 0x32ff -- Charlie

Thanks Charlie In theory,it should be possible to 'render' any tag . So, walking/cycling around you should be able to see as a label any addresses contained in an osm file. I had in mind addresses not attached to any 'object',ie shop, cafe etc. These are just nodes with an addr tag, there are hundreds of them around my area - I agree such 'blind' tags need a type reference. It seems to imply that addresses without a specific type reference, EVENTHOUGH they are rendered in mapnik ,can not be 'shown' in say Mapsource. Perhaps a work around perhaps,is to parse the osm file and replace addr: etc with 'place' before using mkgmap? -- View this message in context: http://gis.638310.n2.nabble.com/address-unknown-tp6210854p6212496.html Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

If you want e.g. the housenumbers on your map, you have to transform them into the name-tag. If you want to have the hole address, you have to add all needed strings into name-tag. Henning
