This value is stored in the img file and AFAIK it is also used for bicycle routing. Gerd Von: Jakob Mühldorfer<mailto:mail@jmuehldorfer.de> Gesendet: Sonntag, 23. For example apply maxspeed=5 to a smoothness=bad way, so the on-device-routing has a lower preference for this way Or does the routing for bikes not look at maxspeed in Etrex devices? Do I see correctly that the default style already sets paths and footways to 5km/h maxspeed?
highway=footway|highway=path|highway=steps [0x16 road_class=0 road_speed=0 resolution 23]

First I must correct myself, the value mkgmap:road-speed-max is not stored in the img, it is used to limit the road_speed value which is stored in the img. So, the rule sets road_speed to the minimal value, in inc/roadspeed a maxspeed value <= 10 also makes sure that this min value is used. It is up to the Garmin device how this value is interpreted, the PC programs allow to define what e.g. road_speed=1 means. In PC programs like Basecamp there is an option to configure the meaning, I am not sure if the value is interpreted as avg. speed or as maximum speed. Gerd Jakob Mühldorfer-2 wrote
