Attached is version 2 of roadNameConfig.patch I'm working in the completion of roadNameConfig file. I think if I could somehow get a file with the list of road names in a map I could advance faster in this task. Is there any tool to get it in the display project?

Hola Carlos, I see that you are listing the prefixes in alphabetic order. I believe it would be way more efficient to put the most common prefixes first. For Portuguese, that would be (as I suggested in a previous message): -# portugese -prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa" -prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "de ", "das ", "dos " +# portuguese +prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa", "Alameda", "Beco" +prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "das ", "dos ", "de ", "d'" Saludos, Alexandre Em 13/06/2017 18:19, Carlos Dávila escreveu:

In what way do you think it is more efficient? I thought you could be talking about roads including more than one prefix1 in their name, eg. "Avenida de la Calle Mayor", but I tested that name and I can't see any difference in search behavior on MapSource. By the way, I found that when road name includes two words listed in prefix1 you can still search by the original full name: Road name: Avenida de la Calle Mayor prefix1:es = "Alameda", "Avenida", "Calle", "Callecita", "Paseo" (or "Alameda", "Calle", "Avenida", "Callecita", "Paseo") You can search both Avenida de la Calle Mayor and Calle Mayor Perhaps that can give a clue to include original name in all cases El 14/06/17 a las 15:11, Alexandre Folle de Menezes escribió:

Is anyone interested in adding a section for Thailand?I don't know how to add them to the configuration file <g>. There are only a few prefixes in use in Thailand, the most common by far is "thanon" (ถนน = road), and a few names begin with "soi" (ซอย = lane). Most often you find the word "soi" at the end of a street name, for example, Thanon Mahidol Soi 5 (Mahidol Road Lane 5). Having just those two prefixes in play would help a lot. Sorry, I was not very clear. What I meant was that mkgmap will run quicker if the most common prefixes are placed first. But I did not check the code, maybe Gerd can confirm/deny my supposition. Saludos, Alexandre Em 14/06/2017 12:06, Carlos Dávila escreveu:

Fine then, my mistake. But I still would like to have the title corrected ("Portug_u_ese") and "Beco" added. Also, I am not sure if "Estrada" and "Rodovia" should be added (both mean "Road"). I am currently using both on my maps, but they since are not common in urban areas, I am not sure what the convention is. Best regards, Alexandre Em 14/06/2017 13:24, Gerd Petermann escreveu:

Hi Carlos, In our project here in Brazil (tracksource.org.br), we started using this new feature with the following configuration: # portuguese prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa", "Alameda", "Beco", "Praça", "Rotatória", "Via", "Viela", "Estrada" prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "de ", "das ", "dos ", "para " Gradually and with more tests we should consider the expansion to other prefixes. With this configuration we obtained a 27 MB reduction in the size of our index file (whole Brazil). Regards, Loss 2017-06-14 14:38 GMT-03:00 Alexandre Folle de Menezes < afmlistas@terra.com.br>:

Yes, " d' " is valid Portuguese. But all others are Spanish, and I believe they should not be ommited in portuguese maps because they will not be assumed by the users. Em 14/06/2017 15:14, Carlos Dávila escreveu:

In our project here in Brazil (tracksource.org.br <http://tracksource.org.br>), we started using this new feature with the following configuration: # portuguese prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa", "Alameda", "Beco", "Praça", "Rotatória", "Via", "Viela", "Estrada" prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "de ", "das ", "dos ", "para "
Gradually and with more tests we should consider the expansion to other prefixes. With this configuration we obtained a 27 MB reduction in the size of our index file (whole Brazil).

Best regards,
Alexandre

Hola Carlos,
I see that you are listing the prefixes in alphabetic order. I believe it would be way more efficient to put the most common prefixes first.
For Portuguese, that would be (as I suggested in a previous message):
-# portugese -prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa" -prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "de ", "das ", "dos " +# portuguese +prefix1:pt = "Rua", "Avenida", "Travessa", "Alameda", "Beco" +prefix2:pt = "da ", "do ", "das ", "dos ", "de ", "d'" Saludos,

Hi all, In addition to all the previously mentioned prefixes for Brazil, there are some more we can add that are very common in Brasília/DF: "Conjunto", "Setor", "Chácara" and "Quadra". The prefixes "Ladeira", "Trevo" and "Viaduto" can be added too. Wesley On Wed, Jun 14, 2017 at 4:34 PM, Alexandre Folle de Menezes < afmlistas@terra.com.br> wrote:
Yes, " d' " is valid Portuguese. But all others are Spanish, and I believe they should not be ommited in portuguese maps because they will not be assumed by the users.

Working on "Avenida" prefix (shared between Spanish and Portuguese) I also found a few cases with "de las", "del , "d'", "el ", "la " in Brazil and/or Portugal

Hi all For United Kingdom I suggest: suffix:en = " Avenue", " Close", " Court", " Crescent", " Drive", " Gate", " Grove", " Lane", " Mews", " Parade", " Place", " Road", " Square", " Street", " Terrace", " View", " Way" Having: prefix1:en = "North ", "East ", "South ", "West " is not a good idea here for two reasons: 1/ It is very rare for there to be a "way" where an initial compass point is not a significant part of its name. 2/ "ways" like "North Street", "West Way", "East View", "South Parade" etc are very common. Generally, the suffix should be removed first and, if removing the prefix gives an empty result, the prefix should be restored. Ticker

Attached is version 3 of roadNameConfig patch. I tried to add all suggestions received. Only things omitted are "de las", "de los", "la" and "el" suffixes for portuguese (can be added to local files by anyone who want to use them) and removal of English prefixes, which may need some more discussion. Please check if I missed something and comment improvements. El 15/06/17 a las 17:47, Ticker Berkin escribió:

Hi, I propose to add for France "Cours" and "Impasse". You can find sometime "Cour" in a street name but I think this is a spelling mistake. Regards. Steph Le 15/06/2017 à 23:01, Carlos Dávila a écrit :

Hi all, I am not sure what to think about the suggestions. My understanding of the feature is that it can help to ease address search, but this only works when the user is able to guess the list of prefix1 words, correct? So, when you create the map for your own, use whatever you like, else I would try to keep the list short so that it only contains the most obvious prefixes. In Germany we also have prefixes like An, Auf, Beim, Zum etc. but they are not used that often, so I did not add them to the sample. Reg. suffixes I am not so sure, they are probably less harmfull. Hi For English, I don't think there should be any prefixes, so can't comment on this aspect. I've been using a map built with --road-name-config with a long list of suffixes for a few days and: 1/ The GMAPSUPP.IMG is slightly bigger (0.083%) 2/ Find>Address isn't as natural to use. The Streets in the list don't have the suffix and only when you select one, do you see, in the list of matching addresses, all the variants (Road, Avenue, etc) 3/ On the map, at medium resolution, my device picks out some streets names and shows them without the suffix. These have a similar appearance to area features and are just plain confusing because it isn't obvious when the name is there, whereas, when it had the full road name it was. I'm swapping back to --no-road-name-config Regards Ticker On Thu, 2017-07-27 at 06:25 +0000, Gerd Petermann wrote:
