Hi! I am missing a part of the Ligurian Sea with my generated map. See: http://www.deltadelta.de/nmz/meer.png I downloaded today europe.osm.bz2 from geofabrik, cut out a part (--bounding-box top=50.5 left=8.0 bottom=42.0 right=14.0) with osmosis, used splitter version 123, mkgmap 1894 with --generate-sea=polygons. My style file draws land above the sea, so I have normally no problems with missing sea or flooding. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks a lot in advance, Dani

Which IDs are you using? Looks like the problem I had when I used the background ID 0x4b for land. I have now: - 0x4b background - 0x32 sea - 0x26 natural=land And make sure that the order in the TYP file is the same. I had used a different ID for land and have two for sea, so I changed the ID for land to 0x26, in vain. But what looks even worse than a rectangular crop from Europe is Italy from geofabrik with my settings. Looks like a patchwork tapestry in mapsource. If you have some spare time could you perhaps create a map from Italy (geofabrik)and look whether it looks good in mapsource? Thanks a lot in advance, Dani

Ok, using the data from geofrabrik I created a map for you: http://osm.thkukuk.de The page is in german, but I think you will find the map for italy ;) The archive contains a installer for MapSource, but you should make sure that neither mapsource nor basecamp are running if you install the map. I only see a rectangle in the upper right corner which is not ok. Don't know why that is, else on a quick view it looked ok for me. Ich auch...something odd's going on in the Gulf of Venice: http://www.cferrero.net/maps/img/italy.png There's also strange things going on with the national border around Sardinia: http://www.cferrero.net/maps/img/sardinia.png And with the Isle of Man and the Lake District National Park in the UK: http://www.cferrero.net/maps/img/lake_district.png mkgmap r1893, by the way. -- Charlie

Thank you very much, Thorsten and Charlie! My map of Italy has glitches at the exact same spots, but they look a little bit different. It seems to me that a rectangular crop from Europe has fewer glitches than maps that show just a single country. Perhaps it has also to do with polygones that have to be closed automatically? Thorsten, your maps showed me that I had not paid attention to how it lookes zoomed out. Thank you for your website and the download area. After using again 7 levels in the options file of the styles it looks much better. :-) Dani

For what it is worth, the Geofabrik extract of Finland needs some special treatment for mkgmap processing. I carefully selected the tiles so that the coastline in the south-east corner of the map ends outside the tile boundary. In the northwest, it was impractical to do this, so I had to enable extend-sea-sectors for one tile, in order to close some coastline that is outside the Finnish border. Before I moved to osm.pbf processing, I had a sed or Perl script that moved the endpoints of the coastline outside the then tile borders. That worked too, but I no longer want to use the XML, for example, by editing the osm.gz tiles from the splitter. Marko
