area too small to split - what does it mean?

Hi! I am getting the error message "area too small to split" when running mkgmap. What does this mean? The tiles are created and at first glance, the map looks ok. I did not use the splitter but just handed over some osm data. Can someone explain what mkgmap is trying to tell me? bye Nop -- View this message in context: http://gis.638310.n2.nabble.com/area-too-small-to-split-what-does-it-mean-tp... Hi Nop, I'm not sure, the last time I got this message is a long time ago. But I think I solved it by reducing the maximum nodes per tile. Did you tryed this already? aighes -- View this message in context: http://gis.638310.n2.nabble.com/area-too-small-to-split-what-does-it-mean-tp... Yes, the node count is less than in other areas that give no error. -- View this message in context: http://gis.638310.n2.nabble.com/area-too-small-to-split-what-does-it-mean-tp... Sent from the Mkgmap Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

It tries to split the area into subdivisions, such that there are less than certain number of points, for example, in each one. This might not be possible, for example if there are lots of points in the same place. So it eventually gives up and prints that message. Usually there will be no obvious problem with the resulting map but there may be problems due to exceeding the limits. Its all a bit uncertain since we don't know exactly what the limits are. Or it could just be a bug, there have been a few in the past, but less likely now. ..Steve
