Hi Steph, please forget that idea with -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8. I thought you may use it and I wanted to say that you should NOT do that. I've probably missunderstood the problem. You say that you can install the map but Basecamp doesn't like it, so I think you probably have an invalid map. You may post a link with the files generated by mkgmap for verification. r3730 was the release when the so called 'file-encoding' branch has been merged back. This 'file-encoding' branch was handling issues with utf-8 and other codepages with regards to license files and copyright files.... The effects look very similar to what I encounterd with the old versions.... that was why some changes regarding license and copyright files has been done.

This might had some influences in other areas also.

Hi Steph, typically the overview map has the number xxxx0000 and the other *.img files xxxx0001,xxxx0002,... I think mkgmap doesn't verify that you don't have an *.img with the number 15000001. I can imagine this could cause such an error.
