Address search for Rostock doesn't work

Hi all, the address search for Rostock (germany) doesn't works for me. In BaseCamp I see the correct region "Rostock, Rostock, DEU", but no street can be found there. In my Garmin GPSr (Dakota-20) no city with the name Rostock exists - peculiar. I have build new bounds from scratch, based on the current europe extract from geofabrik. Questions: - Does the address search (for Rostock) works for someone ? - How is it possible to verify the bounds and the street entries ? - What's the general procedure to hunt down address search issues ? I tested it and have the same problems, boundaries created from the planet file on Tuesday, 3 days ago. Rostock is admin_level=6, the multipolygon is correct, there are no errors in the log file. Sometimes I wished there would be a graphical tool showing the different admin levels from the boundaries. But to debug in this case is easy: Start MapSource or BaseCamp, go to the Rostock area and look what the address of some POIs or so is. And there is the problem: The name of the city is "Ortsamt Mitte", admin_level 7, which is higher in our locator rules then admin_level 6. Don't know what the correct solution would be :( The special rules list for single cities grows and grows for me. Thorsten

Thanks to Thorsten for the valuable hint ... This quick-and-dirty solution solves the problem: An alternative solution could be this ("admin_level 7" will completely be ignored): In germany "admin_level 7" is used for special or artificial administration regions. Mostly they are called "Ämter", "Verbandsgemeinden" or "Verwaltungsgemeinschaften". People typically don't use these objects as starting point for an address search. But this solution needs some more quality assurance ... I want to verify the "address index" against an official german register (called AGS "Amtlicher Gemeindeschlüssel"). Question: How is it possible to print out the content of the address index (mdr file) ? Hi Klaus, do you want to print out the mdr file or do you want to print out the address assignment? If you just want to have a printout in which admin boundaries an element lies you can use the mkgmap logger. Add the line uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.reader.osm.LocationHook.results.level=FINE to your logging.properties file. Read http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mkgmap/dev#Enabling_Debugging how to enable logging. WanMil

Thanks for pointing to the debugging option. What I got was an overwhelming mass of data. Probably the area was too large ... Regards Klaus PS: In the meantime the problem with Rostock is solved. But if someone has an prettyprinter for a mdr file - I'm interested. -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Address-search-for-Rostock-doesn-t-work-tp571...
