I've made my tests with version r1867.

The latest r1939. I think the relevant question is: which release of the protobuf.jar and the osmbin.jar do you use and which one should I use? WanMil

I was able to split germany with the new pfb support and the tiles were fine. I'll give it second try with the europe dump... WanMil

Pse give a the area-list if europe-split from geofabrik works for you. 2011/5/7 WanMil <wmgcnfg@web.de>:

This time it works for me! I don't know what I have done wrong the first time but it's great that it works. Have you done a completeness check? 1. Split with the common spliter to osm.gz file? 2. Split with identical areas.list to osm.pbf file? 3. Compare both - maybe by converting pbf to osm? - or compile a map with both variants and compare the binary file size of the results. WanMil P.S.: Attached is the areas.list of the geofabric europe dump
