Should pubs turn up in the "Food and Drink" section of my eTrex's search menu? I get a nice icon, but no searchability - and I find that pubs are often destinations (because it's a common meeting place, not just^W because I'm a secret alcoholic!) I've tried looking in "All POIs", too, and there are none there.

I noticed that too, I think the garmin is censoring the data because it doesn't approve (probably a secret government directive!) Cheers (or not, in this case) Mark

... and I thought that it was just me. I changed the mapping from: point|amenity|pub|0x46|0x00|20 to: point|amenity|pub|0x2a|0x11|20 (which is "British Restaurant") in map_features.csv to get a unique category for them under "food and drink". This is with an old version of mkgmap though; there's probably a different (easier) way with the current version.

I find with the following definition from the default style file, that Pubs show up under Entertainment, subcategory "Bar/Nightclub": amenity=pub [0x4600 resolution 20] That's a rather American understanding of pub, I'm afraid. ;-) Cheers!

The icon for those is the same as for 0x4600, so perhaps I should use 0x2d02 for pubs?

A quick test with amenity=pub [0x2d02] appears to solve this - is there any reason not to do so permanently?

I just noticed this discrepancy myself: the Pubs marked as 0x4600 appear under Bar/Nightclub in Mapsource, but not in my eTrex. It looks like 0x2d02 is a better choice, as Pubs and Biergarten both show up in the eTrex. I have adjusted my style file accordingly.

I am using 0x2A11 for pubs, when I am looking for an establishment tagged as a pub, I am going out for a meal, not looking for a nightclub, so I prefer to look pubs under dining, rather than, entertainment. --Mike On Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 8:27 PM, Clinton Gladstone <clinton.gladstone@googlemail.com> wrote:
