Multiple maps listed as one on Garmin GPSmap62

Hi @all, I've created several maps with mkgmapy: - 1 IMG-file for Lower Bavaria - 5 IMG-files for Upper Bavaria - 1 IMG-file for Iceland Then I upload all these maps to my GPSmap62 I can see an entry named "OpenStreetMap and contributors" listing "Lower Bavaria", "Upper Bavaria" and "Iceland". When I try to deactivate maps, I can not deactive a single map, only the whole entry "OpenStreetMap and contributors". What do I have to do to get to entries named "Iceland" and "Bavaria" (or "Germany")? Thanks in advance for any hint. Markus -- NEU: FreePhone - kostenlos mobil telefonieren! How? As one gmapsupp.img, or as several different img files?

Which means you did not create several maps, but only one map with several layers. With the 62, you cannot disable a single layer. Garmin "broke" it with one firmware update and is selling it as new feature. I have several different image files. You say, that I created a single map with several layers. How can I create a single map? I played around with the commandline-options of mkgmap, but nothing changes the result. (Each of the IMG files got a different map name (--mapname). I have also used the options for country name and region name, family ID and name.) Markus -------- Original-Nachricht --------

My commandline options are: java -Xmx2048m -jar mkgmap.jar --transparent --description=Iceland --mapname=12345681 --country-name=Iceland --country-abbr=ICE --family-id=5416 --family-name=MyMap --product-id=15 iceland.osm I used different random numbers for the IDs. mkgmap is r1973. -------- Original-Nachricht --------

How do you compose the gmapsupp.img?
I used different random numbers for the IDs.
I use --product-id=1 for all layers in my gmapsupp.img, and use a different family-id for each layer, both when generating the .img files and when composing the gmapsupp.img. You can get my osm2img.sh from http://www.polkupyoraily.net/osm/ if you are interested. For what it is worth, the Edge 705 does not display the --description anywhere. It only displays the --family-name and allows maps to be enabled or disabled by --family-id (which are identified in the dialog by family-name). I have understood from others' reports that the GPSMap 60CSx displays the --description. I have not seen the map selection dialog of any other device than my Edge 705. Best regards, Marko

Hi Marko, I downloaded your osm2img.sh script. I think, I see my mistake now (correct me, if I'm wrong): 1. When I start mkgmap without "--gmapsupp" I get an IMG file, that is a single layer in a map. 2. To get a complete map, I have to combine all these layer-IMGs to a map. I do this, when I start mkgmap with "--gmapsupp". Best regards, Markus -------- Original-Nachricht --------

Correct. But, I have understood that some devices (such as the Edge 800) can display individual IMG files as well. I do not have first-hand experience of any other devices than the Edge 705. I have held a GPSMap 60CSx in my hand before I got my Edge and got involved with OpenStreetMap. Best regards, Marko

Thank you Marko, that's it! I created a new map of Iceland. This time, I used "--gmapsupp". When I upload the IMG file (I renamed it to "osm-iceland.img" before), I see a separate entry for Iceland now. Is there a documentation that describes the meaning of the different map parameters? The wiki page for mkgmap is not very useful. -------- Original-Nachricht --------

Correct. The 800 can use multiple maps with different filenames. If you alter the family-id and corresponding entry in the typ file these maps can be selected/deselected individually Cheers Paul
