Hi all, I currently have a list of postcodes added to my map, and can see them in the Postal Code field of the Find Addresses option in basecamp, but they are not linked to any roads/houses, so any address searches with postcodes do not find anything. Can anyone please explain what I need to do to get postcodes working properly? There is a brief mention of mkgmap:postcode in the help, but it doesn't explain how to use it, and anyway, I only have the centre points of the postcodes rather than their enclosing areas. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, AFAIR the search for zip codes in Basecamp should work . if you use your own style I'd suggest to try the default style. If that doesn't work as well, and you think that the OSM is correct, please post a link to your input file and I'll try to reproduce the problem. If the problem is in your style, follow the hints at the bottom of this link: http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/news/2015/06/08/house-number-improvements Gerd ________________________________________ Von: mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk <mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk> im Auftrag von Mike Baggaley <mike@tvage.co.uk> Gesendet: Montag, 9. Hi Gerd, thanks for the reply. I have tried with the default style and it does work, but as far as I can see, only for buildings with house numbers. The buildings and places I am trying to find have names but not numbers. Is there a way to get it to work without needing house numbers, which are rarely present in OSM? I'm happy to just locate the street without a specific building if I have a node with addr:street and addr:postcode. I understand him that he has a city name and street name, but no house numbers. So he wants to create the map in a way, that you don't need to enter a house number for address search. Mike, as far as I know that's not possible, but you can enter a random house number in this case. Thorsten

HI Gerd, using the default style and converting Staffordshire, England, the following nodes, some postcodes work as expected, but the following ones don't seem to work: This one does not get added - I'm assuming this is because addr:street is "Edgbaston drive" rather than "Edgbaston Drive". Hi Mike, 1) node 1913030629 Can't reproduce the problem with r3650:. The log shows that case insensitve matching works: WARN: ...osmstyle.housenumber.HousenumberGenerator f:\osm\postcode1.osm: accepting match in spite of different capitalisation Edgbaston drive 52 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/49994653) house: http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1913022239 WARN: ...osmstyle.housenumber.HousenumberGenerator f:\osm\postcode1.osm: accepting match in spite of different capitalisation Edgbaston drive 54 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/49994653) house: http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1913030629 I am also able to find the road entering the name and postcode. Maybe you have a problem caused by tile boundaries here. 2) node 2327523932 The tag addr:housenumber 248-254 is interpreted as addr:housenumber 248, the rest is ignored. I'll think about your proposal, but again anything else works fine for me. 3) node 1800286499 yes, this node is ignored up to now because it has no addr:housenumber tag. I think this can be improved. Another question is why there is no postal code info from boundaries. Is there a way to get it to work without needing house numbers, which are rarely present in OSM? I'm happy to just locate the street without a specific building if I have a node with addr:street and addr:postcode. Can anyone please explain what I need to do to get postcodes working properly? There is a brief mention of mkgmap:postcode in the help, but it doesn't explain how to use it, and anyway, I only have the centre points of the postcodes rather than their enclosing areas. Hi Mike, it seems that Garmin software only supports the search for postal codes when house numbers are assigned to the road. While looking at this problem I found one small error in mkgmap which I've now fixed with r3654, but that will not help in your case for node 2327523932. Gerd Mike Baggaley wrote

Hi,
I started to code the support for the 3rd case (node 1800286499), but got stuck because I am unsure what data should be written to the img file.
I'll try again this week.
Gerd

HI Gerd, using the default style and converting Staffordshire, England, the following nodes, some postcodes work as expected, but the following ones don't seem to work:
This one does not get added - I'm assuming this is because addr:street is "Edgbaston drive" rather than "Edgbaston Drive". Should there be a case insensitive comparison? node 1913030629 addr:housenumber 54 addr:postcode ST4 8FJ addr:street Edgbaston drive building house
The postcode for this one does not get added, I assume because addr:housenumber does not contain a single number. However, it seems to me that both 248 and 254 could be added to the map.
node 2327523932 addr:housenumber 248-254 addr:postcode ST4 5RH addr:street London Road name Kraft Kabin shop doityourself
This one does not get added, I assume because there is no addr:housenumber. I have not checked to see what happens if I set the housenumber to 0. Does the housenumber have to be non-zero? node 1800286499 addr:housename Terrace Inn addr:postcode ST4 5DG addr:street Penkhull New Road amenity pub name Terrace Inn
Regards, Mike

Hi Mike,
I fear I don't yet understand the problem. You have a road without a housenumber element next to it and you want to find it with the address search using the zip code ?

Hi Gerd, thanks for the reply. I have tried with the default style and it does work, but as far as I can see, only for buildings with house numbers. The buildings and places I am trying to find have names but not numbers. Is there a way to get it to work without needing house numbers, which are rarely present in OSM? I'm happy to just locate the street without a specific building if I have a node with addr:street and addr:postcode.
