feature-request - variable copyright information

Hi, MapSource shows as copyright information the following lines: /Map created with mkgmap-r2220 Map data licenced under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 OpenStreetMap and contributors Program released under the GPL http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ www.openstreetmap.org/ In near future OSM will change the licence, so I think Garmin-maps could also released with other licences than cc-by-sa. So it would be great to chage these lines to a fix part /Map created with mkgmap-r2220 / /Program released under the GPL / and a variable part for the licence of the map and licence information of the input. this could be done in a txt-file. If there is no txt-file, there should be a default. Henning

Did you ever look at mkgmap --help=options? Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk, Project Manager/Release Manager SLES SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

Thorsten Thanks for the hint. The variable part is no problem. But I think it would be great, that mkgmap set allways their own copyright-lines. Or am I the only one eho thinks so?

mkgmap is copyrighted, but the license for mkgmap does not fit for the maps it generates. I don't think it would be leagal wise correct to add a (c) mkgmap, GPL to the maps. Or did I misundestood your request? I would like to have this both lines in the copyright-text, shown in MapSource. /Map created with mkgmap-r2220 //Program released under the GPL /Maybe copyright-lines was the wrong expression. If I set the text with a license-file these lines were not added to the text. Henning //

mkgmap --license-file=license.txt Of course it would, but I have to add mkgmap-version manually. It wont be a big thing, but it would be easier if mkgmap would do it, as they would like to have it written.

Beside that mkgmap itself reports as version always only "svn", I don't think that it is a good idea to have this splitted, into a hardcoded part and a variable one. Would make it very hard to adjust the text for your map if you need to do so. And redirecting the output of "mkgmap --version" to a file is a really simple task. echo java -jar mkgmap.jar --version > test.txt doesn't work. Version is only printed to stdout (cmd), not to test.txt. I don't know if it is a Windows-thing or a mkgmap-thing. If this works, everything would be fine. :-) Henning

Don't know about Windows, but with Linux: java -jar mkgmap.jar --version 2> test.txt No need for the echo. And you need to redirect stderr. Hi, sorry, echo was a fault in my email. Doesn't work on windows for me. But I can handle the version manually. Henning

But according to the Microsoft support database, it should: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/110930 Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk, Project Manager/Release Manager SLES SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

Of course, in other cases it works. Also mkgmap.jar --help=options > foo.bar works. But --version is only printed to cmd. Henning

java -ea -jar mkgmap.jar --version 2>ver.txt works form me. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:RheinSkipper Von: mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk [mailto:mkgmap-dev-bounces@lists.mkgmap.org.uk] Im Auftrag von aighes Gesendet: Donnerstag, 23.
