Do we write the region and/or country index wrongly? Still not able to search addresses outside of current maptile on etrex vista hcx

With my etrex Vista HCx I'm still unable to search for addresses outside of the tile with (last) GPS fix. Also in the find address box there is no way to select country even though I sent two maps (Switzerland and Austria) to the GPS via Mapsource. With City Navigator there is allways the country selection box visible and has to be selected for correct finding of addresses / choosing street. This leads me to believe that something with the country index is written wrong and therefore only searching in current tile is possible. Also the cities seem to be missing something, as soon as I type in a letter it says none found (only in address search or intersection search tab, in the city search tab cities are found - except those with Umlauts in their name).

I found on my eTrex that I had to type the ENTIRE city name in before it was found. That means the incremental search does not work, but the city can be found (at least in my test with Germany, doing a local search). Can you reproduce this? Cheers.

Ok, here are my observations with the index and address search Mapssource with opemmtbmap Germany 28.10.2009: If i give the City in City field and then choose a street out of the "Choose street" window i got always " no element found. But If i give instead the City in German federal Land/Province field and then choose a street out of the "Chosse street" window i got the searched street. Entering the city in both fields breaks the search again. Ok, searching by simply using only the streetfield works. GPS 60csx with opemmtbmap Germany 28.10.2009: if i try to enter a city in the city tab of the address search, i got a "no found"(immediately if i enter the first character.) I have to enter the full city name like Clinton mentioned. But if i have entered city name, streetname, housenumber no address is found.Only then deleting the city helps. The only way to search is to enter a housenumber and a street, then i get a list of similar named streets in different citys(as far if there are), but also the attempt to reduce the search result by entering the city fails as i describe above. Only if i directly choose one out of the search result it will be found. If i transfer the osm map together with an other map which contains also an index, address search dont'work. Together with a Metroguide only the metroguide index works. Together with an other mkgmap map address search don't work for any of the maps.(e.g openmtbmap De + own mkgmap created trailmap) Address search works with multiple tiles out of a mapset (tested with 4 tiles) cheers Gert

Sorry but i have to give some more additional information on this

This seems to be related to my trailmap. No idea why. Meanwhile i have also tested sending mtbmap Germany + mtbmapalps each with 2 tiles. The address searchs works, but only in the tile where you are actually located. You can search in other tiles by moving your postion with gps in off Satellite mode.

see above. only in the tile where you are actually located. cheers

Meanwhile , after some more test it seems to me that transparency of a map prohibits address search. If i disable the tranparency of my map, address search works for it, also if i have tiles from another map with index( e.g. //openmtbmap De) //on my gps together with it. Curiously i can always only address search on my trail map and not on the openmtbmap, although both maps are in the same region where i located. I played already around with setting of Drawprioity and mapid, but can't find out the reason for this behaviour. As far as i can see its related to the effect, that you only can search in the region(however it is defined)/tile where you are located. My trail map covers a wider region then a single tile of the //openmtbmap De. //If i move my location on gps while gps receiver is off, to a region which is covered from a tile of the openmtbmap De, immediately the address search works for this map and no more for my trail map. afaik(at this time) 1. one can have more then one mapset with address index one gps 2. Address search only works for a tile 3. the map which covers the wider area will be taken for address search if there are more then one map(out of different mapsets) for a region 4. transparent maps can't be used on GPS for adress search cheers <http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=5tY9AA&search=curiously>

Sorry an addition/correction i have to make Gert Münzel *on* /Sat Oct 31 19:52:51 GMT 2009/

Address search only works for a tile 3. the map which covers the wider area will be taken for address search if there are more then one map(out of different mapsets) for a region 4. transparent maps can't be used on GPS for adress search to 3. on some examples this was true. But i tested this again with Metroguide tiles and openmtbmap DE together on gps. The smaller(less wide area) MG tile rules over the openmtbmap. Not before you move the cursor in the wider area of the openmtbmap DE tile you can search in it.
to address search in other tiles by moving position: there is no need to temporarily set your position to the other tile while gps receiver is in off mode(as i thought first). Simply moving the cursor to the other tile is enough(on my 60csx, should be the same on Vista hcx and similar devices) cheers

Well it is very possible, although I don't even have a suspicion of where the problem might be. For example things go wrong if there are more than 16 regions in a single map, but this is unlikely to be a real limit as the region field in the city section is two bytes wide.

The sorting order for labels could be a problem, it not something that I have looked into much, and is next on my list to investigate. Regards, ..Steve
