Another question to "Fix my address"

Hi! I am not sure, but do I see it correctly that now POIs that cannot have an address information do not get it showed, even if there is one supplied? Or does Garmin prevent to show address info for such POIs? I ask because I personally like to reuse unused POIs (like Marine POIs) to give other infos to them. So for me personally it would be better to add address info if there is one supplied and omit the "Fix my address"-info, if there is no address info. That would also satisfy the people that are "flash space oriented" since the boring "Fix my address" would not come if there is no such info in the database. E.G:: I use amenity=taxi [0x2f16 resolution 20] In Munich, these points have official names, that is in most cases the street nearby, most of them have a phone number, but they have no "legal" address. So in my maps, I find the "Fix my address" nevertheless for these points. But I get the phone number what can be very useful. I would propose just to show all of the address info that is supplied in the database and omit the "Fix my address" generally. And: There are many restaurants, etc. that are just mapped, also without further address info. I think that these will get their address infos with or without the "Fix my address" hint. And people who just want to find the next "italian restaurant" can navigate to it anyway. Dani

Has really nobody something to say about that?

Only certain types allow to show additional info. See older discussion. The patch resulting from there, is not submitted to trunk. Hence all POI have "fix my address" but no GPS will ever show it, nor Mapsource. It only serves QlandkarteGT.

Is there a complete list of which POIs allow it and which not?

So would it not be acceptable to remove the "Fix my address" alltogether for those people that have not much space on their units? I mean, does this info help in any way? When I see that a restaurant has no address info I know, I could add it with or without this info. But it increases the gmapsupp file size. And this was the main topic of a user that asked to remove this info. Dani

Dani If I remember it was you or someone else who insisted that this information were usable, hence the patch was not applied to trunk. The list of POI where address info is used, can be found in the older topic. No other POI are usable for additional info. The patch also removes the fix my address.

I'm entirely in favour of removing 'fix my address', but Thilo (who wrote the patch) said that it shouldn't be committed. See: http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2010q2/008177.html ..Steve

I don't know the patch, but I am in the same opinion, to remove the 'fix my adress'. Why not simply remove the code, which inserts this text? There is no need to distinguish different types of POIs. Regards, Johann

And that would be very easy. Just remove the string from the Code.
There is no need to distinguish different types of POIs.
That is also my opinion. I'd rather add additional info if that was possible than to add "useless" info. Dani
