Hi, there was a question on a german forum how to route over route=ferry. The following line rules (added to default style) do not work: route=ferry { add mkgmap:ferry=yes } [0x1a road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 19] or route=ferry { add mkgmap:ferry=yes } [0x1b road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 19] The ferry is displayed but is not used for routing (using Mapsource - avoiding ferry is not checked). Is anyone able to route over ferries or is it regression? (I remeber that I was able to route over ferries some time ago). I have checked that the ferry is connected correctly to a highway so it should not be a data problem. WanMil

Hi, Sylt-Romo without any problems in basecamp and Nuvi 250. <http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=431164#p431164> Maybe Garmin gets problems when the route is to long, but this was also the case with older versions of mkgmap. Chris

yeah - I also noticed that 0x1b is not working. I do think that 0x1a is no problem though... (maybe 0x1b has special requirements). On 22.06.2014 22:32, WanMil wrote:

I use route=ferry & seasonal!=* route=ferry {add mkgmap:ferry=1} [0x1b road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 24] without any problems. There are a lot of people complaining about non seasonal ferries so I've added this tag to make those ferries that do not go during winter times not routable. Still there are a lot of people complaining that they cant avoid ferries because they have units without "ferry avoidance" but thats not my problem ;-)

PS I made a small mistake with copy/paste, it should be route=ferry & seasonal!=* {add mkgmap:ferry=1} [0x1b road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 24] A few reasons that ferries are not routable: - Bad connections on OSM - Ferry lines are only connected by footways where you get/on off the ferries

Or they are connected by service roads, which have class 0. Garmin router is optimized to route from low-road-class to high-class and back to low class. Chris

I think the main problem on this german forum topic, there are two routable lines used on top of each other. This might leading to conflicts.

Thanks for all the feedback! I have retested with some testdata and found no problem with routing of ferry routes.... Don't know what the problem with my previous test data was. WanMil P.S.: Should we add route=ferry { add mkgmap:ferry=yes } [0x1a road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 19] to the default style? Or 0x1b?

No, because it's already there: route=ferry {add mkgmap:ferry=1} [0x1b road_class=3 road_speed=0 resolution 19] Chris

Oh, I overlooked the include file. So everything is well done :-)
