After deleting the remove-short-arcs option from my settings, I can see the correct coastline in Biograd (Croatia) now. But even when I precompile sea from recent shape files or use the latest from Wanmil, I have some flooding in the harbor. I have seen other OSM maps which do not have this problem. Which option does the trick?

OK, I found the problem: According to <http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2010-April/049629.html> http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2010-April/049629.html leisure=marina should not be rendered as a blue area anymore. It should be rendered as a line instead. In the default style it is still rendered as a polygon area. And in case of the harbor of Biograd, Croatia this polygon covers some land. I think this should be changed in the default style. But even when I precompile sea from recent shape files or use the latest from Wanmil, I have some flooding in the harbor.

Which line type would you suggest? Marko

A blue dotted line is suggested in the above discussion. But there is no default type like that available. I use line type 0x10500 in my map. This renders as a faint magenta line so it cannot be mistaken as a jetty or obstacle. This type is normally used for restricted areas like no wake zones, which also makes sense in a marina. But as an extended marine type it may not show up on all devices. 0x2a (marine boundary) would be another option. But it is rendered as black line which can be very irritating.

Right, and there is no 'default TYP file'.

So far, the default style does not use extended types. I would choose 0x2a of these. Anyone who does not like it could use a TYP file or change the mapping. Another option would be to remove leisure=marina from the default style and add the extended type 0x10500 to the marine style. So, everyone please speak up what should be done. Marko

In my opinion this option is a very good idea.

Done, in r2524. I moved the POIs too, and raised the POI resolution from 24 (closest zoom) to 20, because I guess that when you are on the sea, you want to see the leisure=marina from a longer distance than when you are on the ground. Marko

Leave where it is now on de default style. A lot of people, who travel by car also want to visit a marine. Hans de Jonckheere Op 9-3-2013 13:30, Marko Mäkelä schreef:

I think that both the point and the polygon should be in the same style, so that the option --add-pois-to-areas can work. The point and polygon were in the default style, and RheinSkipper complained that the old polygon type code 0x09 looks like water on his device. If leisure=marina has to remain in the default style, how shall we fix the original problem? Can we replace the old polygon type code 0x09 with the extended type code 0x10500 in the default style? The default style does not use any extended type codes so far. Best regards, Marko

If you use marine style, as I guess RheinSkipper does, I don't see why it should be a problem to have marinas in the default also. Having marinas in both styles lets you choose how to render them, with 0x09 or with 0x10500

Right. In r2529 I put back the point to the default style, so that a leisure=marina point exists in both the default style and the marine style. I hope that this works as desired. I also removed the leisure=marina polygon and added a leisure=marina line to the marine style. This should mean that add-pois-to-areas will no longer convert leisure=marina areas to POIs. The original problem was that the leisure=marina line was rendered as a water-looking area that obscured everything inside the area. I guess that it could be a satisfactory solution to add leisure=marina POIs for the area entrance in the OSM data, if the POIs are desired. Marko

Another option would be to remove leisure=marina from the default style and add the extended type 0x10500 to the marine style.

But this must be added to marine-style lines, not to polygons.
