I'm having a weird routing problem! I'm using CreateIMG (which uses mkgmap to do the work) to create a Garmin compatible map of the UK. I've installed this map into BaseCamp, and I'm trying to create a route. There's a point on a local minor road which BaseCamp refuses to route through *unless* the route options permit the use of 'Interstates'! There is no node in OpenStreetMap at this point, although BaseCamp, displaying the map I've created, does show a black dot at the point in question. I don't know what this black dot signifies. The problem point is at the centre of http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/52.1631/0.2473 and the BaseCamp view of this area is http://www.jjdash.myzen.co.uk/temp/routeproblem.png This problem has only recently started happening, though I both have updated BaseCamp and built a new map from current data, and don't know which of these might be responsible. I am using a slightly customised set of stylesheets, but these have not changed since the last time this worked properly. I also know CreateIMG uses rather an old version of mkgmap, but again this has not changed. Any ideas? Or is there a better place to ask for help? Thanks in advance! -- Cheers, John

Hi John, I guess the black dot appears at a so called tile boundary. Old versiones of mkgmap are known to cause problems at these points. Gerd John Aldridge wrote

Hi John, I suggest replacing the mkgmap.jar version that ships with CreateIMG with the latest version and see how that compares. Thank you, Gerd, I've tried to update my copy of CreateIMG with up to date versions of splitter and mkgmap, and routing now seems to work properly :) Perhaps I should try to contact the CreateIMG author, and suggest that he may want to update his release. -- Cheers, John In article <1439630028463-5852345.post@n5.nabble.com>, gpetermann_muenchen@hotmail.com says...

Hi John, I did not suggest to do that because I was unsure what style you are using. The styles shipped with CreateIMG-beta09.zip don't contain the needed changes which are documented here: http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/news/2013/12/22/more-flexibility-in-style-files-sty... If you make sure that the default style shipped with the latest mkgmap.jar is used you should be on the safe side. Gerd John Aldridge wrote

OK... that worked out fairly well. I'm now using a slightly tweaked version of the default style supplied with mkgmap, and getting good results. I still think there's something strange going on with routing, though, perhaps with the new version (4.5.0) of BaseCamp. This area of the map http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/52.27095/0.29622 now renders like this http://www.jjdash.myzen.co.uk/temp/reach0.png in BaseCamp, and I can plan a route http://www.jjdash.myzen.co.uk/temp/reach2.png which is fine, until I allow the use of unpaved roads, at which point BaseCamp inserts a completely pointless loop into the route! http://www.jjdash.myzen.co.uk/temp/reach1.png -- Cheers, John In article <MPG.3039a51a44c2341c989685@news.gmane.org>, jpsa@jjdash.demon.co.uk says...

Hi John, I was able to reproduce the problem. I think it is caused by a wrong flag in the map regarding drive-on-left, means, Basecamp probably assumes that you are driving on the right side. The problem can be fixed using the --drive-on=left option or the --bounds option which allows mkgmap to detect the correct setting for a country. Please note that the script createIMG.bat is quite out-aged, it doesn't use powerful options like --index, --bounds, --precomp-sea, and --housenumbers. Gerd

That seems to have done the trick :) I've emailed the CreateIMG author, referring him to this discussion, in case he'd like to issue an updated version. I'll also investigate some of the other new options you describe, but for now I think I've got something which works pretty well.
