[PATCH v1] Improve delete-tag-list with blacklist-tags-file and whitelist-tags-file

The new option committed in r1279 by Mark Burton is great. The attached patch improves it so that you can define a blacklist-tags-file (renamed delete-tags-file option) and a whitelist-tags-file. The new whitelist improves the speed for generating special maps that are interested only in a few tags. Comments are welcome! Thanks for the patch - it looks good, I like the way you keep backwards compatibility with the delete-tags-file option. Perhaps someone who is using that original option (I don't use it myself) would try this patch out and give us some feedback. Cheers, Mark

No feedback yet so I want to give some examples why this is a valuable patch. Using a whitelist is very useful for all maps that are interested in few tags only. This could be a map visualizing * the maxspeed tag * the lane tag * the maxweight, maxheight ... tag * all other QA-maps On my (lame) machine I tested an 1GB OSM file and created a maxspeed map: whitelist: 3 minutes no whitelist: I aborted after 25 minutes In future it might be interesting to preparse the style and the typ file to autocreate a whitelist file. Hi WanMil, Sorry, your patch has not yet been discussed. We have been very busy recently. It has not been forgotten. Cheers, Mark

This would certainly be the most convenient approach, from a user's point of view. I recently made an overlay map which contained only public transit information (stops and transit routes). Such a whitelist feature would have been helpful. Cheers.

That sounds interesting (and an incentive for me to define some bus route relations for nearby lines). Have you documented your process? I have yet to create or use any map overlays. Marko

I'll try to get around to documenting my procedure. For the overlay, I simply created a non-routable transparent map with a higher draw-order than the main map. Using an eTrex, it's quite easy to turn the overlay on and off -- I'm not sure how easy this is with other Garmin units. Cheers.
