Hi Gerd,
In my estimation my file is in utf-8, but when in file are national characters (Ł: U+0141, utf8 C581; ó: U+00F3,utf8 C3B3;ź: U+017A.,utf8 C5BA) mkgmap report an error (I attach 2 file - one with arguments  and second with command line and error message)
