Yes, here is an example of Mapsource and Oregon 600, in Basecamp/Mapsource the intermittent stream is rendered as dashed blue line, on my Oregon a solid blue line, but with a label showing "intermittent" (without typ file): https://www.dropbox.com/s/mrf74mgmvhhq1km/intermittent.jpg?dl=0
Did not try it, will the 2nd line work without a TYP file ?
